Walkhampton Inn Stay

This the second time we have visited. Would visit again if we were ever in the area again.

Great place to stay if you’re needing good proximity to Plymouth and surrounding areas but want the peace and quiet that Dartmoor brings. Staff accommodated our late check-in due to road traffic accident which we were very grateful for. Included breakfast is delicious and chef is super friendly. Rooms are great - comfy beds and powerful shower. Only downside is that if other rooms have their tv’s on loudly, you can hear it straight through the walls which happened on a couple nights of our stay! Other than that lovely and peaceful.

Potential to be lovely

Room was lovely and the beer garden, however there is a lot of mess in communal hallways that could give the place a much nicer feel. The lady serving out breakfast didn’t seem very happy either

In need of some TLC

I know this was a country pub, but it could definitely have been more welcoming and cleaner. In fairness the young girl in the bar when I arrived was very good, but the lady who served breakfast didn’t even wish me a Good Morning as she plonked my instant mug of coffee down. The breakfast was set up on the bar and consisted of a few boxes of cereal, a jug of orange juice, which didn’t look too clean, and a jar of jam and marmalade. No yoghurt or fruit. This was followed by a full English which I cannot comment on but I had poached eggs on toast. The whites on one of them wasn’t cooked properly. The bed was comfortable enough and the shower worked well. There was ‘stuff’ at the top of the staircase by the exit door - looked like paint and various bits of DIY materials. Could definitely do with a tidy/clean up. Limited space in the car park and village.

Obliging

Extremely helpful staff. Very obliging We have an electric car, there are very few fast charging points in Cornwall, no charging points in this village and very slow 7kw ones in the nearest town. By the time we arrived at the pub we had only 30 miles left, once we found out that the village didn’t have any charging points the bar staff were very sweet to offer their parents home charger, but we had to reject as home chargers are slow at around 2kw, the nearest town was Tavistock but they only had 7kw which meant we would have to wait there till 8am. We got enough power there to make it to Plymouth where Sainsbury’s boasts 125kw charging points, actually about 90kw. We called the pub as the charging would not complete till after the pub closes at 11, they said they would wait for us, they did. Much appreciated. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately we couldn’t have breakfast as we had to leave at 8am

Lesu

Unable to close bathroom door, slight water leak into corner of room from roof when it rains. Floor boards need tightening to stop them creaking. Room door needs planing to be able to close without having to slam it closed.Food was very good. Staff very friendly.

6/10 Good

The staff were nice we were not given the room we booked, but a slightly cheaper and very cramped one we had deliberatly not booked. Apparantly on account of ongoing redecorating. The room smelt of paint and it too we were told was in the process of being redecorated. The TV in the room did not work though the staff in the bar did manage to fix it eventually after we had retired to the room. Had any one actually said anything and possibly apologised, rather than making excuses for the below par state, we would have been happier.

I was looking forward to an overnight stay at The Walkhampton but I'm afraid it was disappointing. Our room was very small and I was terrified that I would fall through the floor at any moment as the whole floor was moving up and down by a couple of inches. It was difficult to use the toilet as the ensuite was tiny and badly designed. The carpets were really dirty and desperately needed a deep clean. The handrail going up the stairs was really, really dirty....sticky and grimy. Very unpleasant. We ate in the pub downstairs and the food was good and reasonably priced. Staff were helpful but our TV didn't work and even after a member of staff came to fix it, it still didn't work. My husband ended up sorting it out. Breakfast was poor and didn't resemble the description given. No potatoes and no pudding. Items given were of a good quality though. Juice and milk were very limited which was irritating. We waited a long time for tea and coffee and had to ask for toast. Breakfast is a big part of an overnight stay and it was disappointing. Overall I'd say this place needs better organisation and a more disciplined cleaning regime. I didn't expect 5 star luxury but when you take someone's money you have to provide a certain standard and this place unfortunately falls short.

Pub rural très authentique, chaleureux et convivial. La cuisine est très bonne y compris le petit déjeuner. Chambre rustique et spacieuse. Le personnel est très agréable.

Proper old pub

Loved this venue. People were lovely and food delicious. But we stayed in the smallest room which was a twin. I have never stayed in such a small room! No drawers or hanging space, was en suite but very claustrophobic. Will definitely go back but get a bigger room. ♥️ this is a proper pub, like they should be, beams on the ceilings and stone steps. Lovely garden area with lights. You will enjoy.

Fabulous Dartmoor Inn

A beautiful old Dartmoor Inn in a very pretty village location. Terrific range of local ales and ciders and great food. Lovely walk in shower, but needs a corner shelf for toiletries. Paintwork needs touching up in places, but, overall, a wonderful, comgortanle plce to stay.
