Unfortunately there were many many ants in our room and we complained twice and nothing happened. We finally talked to Imran the manager vs. night staff who actually encouraged to contact and ask for discount as we paid $500/night which is not inexpensive and we dealt with ants the whole time. Catia at the front desk was amazing!!! After finally flying in and having an mis hap on the train that detoured us an extra 5 1/2 hours … finally getting to the hotel she saved us with parking. The hotel is in a perfect location close to shops and restaurants and steps from the beach. There is night live music but from our room 119 we didn’t hear anything. The utilities might be a little used but honestly for the price and location it is amazing. Id come back 10 times. So glad we stayed here instead of Lagos or Portimão which is way more of a city. Obrigata!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.s. the breakfast was amazing as well!

Since we had a car, I chose this property, in part, because I read it had parking. When we got there, we drove down the one way hill google will take you down to stop out front of the hotel to unload our luggage, at a tiny unloading zone. The front desk let us know that there was just one garage space left (with daily fee) or that we could drop bags in our room and then go look for free public parking. We wound up doing the latter, which worked fine for us, but for those that need to know, we finally found a spot up a very steep hill near about a 15 min walk from hotel in the Monte Dorado resort parking area that was a hike to get back up to when we left. The Plaza hotel was super convenient, being right outside of the beach, with two boat tour companies right next door (which was so great for our early morning departure time), shopping and restaurants. We enjoyed our tiny terrace overlooking the main strip and all the people below. The noise from the street was audible from our room until pretty late but once the bars closed, we slept soundly on our comfy twin beds pushed together. The breakfast buffet was perfect for us. The pool provided a nice reprieve from the crowds of carvoeiro beach (it is packed like…sardines!). The staff were kind and let us borrow their wine bottle opener they had at the front desk for a moment to enjoy the wine we got at Garrafeira Soares next door. Rooftop bar prices high (you pay for the view). And the boardwalk is so close which was amazing.

The STAFF seemed like they didn't want to interact with us. At check in, we told the man at the front desk that we had a car. He said the parking lot was full and then stared at us without saying anything else. After a strangely long pause, we asked, "What now?" He gave us tentative information about on street parking, but didn't appear very confident in which areas were free nor for how long. He nor anyone else assisted us with our bags, even though there are about five steps to get into reception and an additional five off the elevator to our room, we are both women, and one of us was visibly pregnant. The same front desk staff at checked in, told my friend she would need to wait until the next morning to ask any more questions. Each time we interacted with front desk staff, they seemed either unsure of what they were doing or uninterested in helping us. The ROOM we received was NOT as pictured. We assume they've nicely fixed up one type of room to fix up for pictures and the rest are not nearly as nice. This was particularly the case with the bathroom, which had a tub/shower in which you had to hold on to the sink to get over the tall tub and through relatively small opening to get in/out. POOL hours are 10am - 6pm. However, when we arrived at 10:15, staff was dumping chemicals in and said that we couldn't get in for another hour. There is no lifeguard to duty, so we were confused by the limited hours. The LOCATION is absolutely perfect. Bottom line: Not worth the money.
