Top neighbourhoods in Aegina

Aegina Town

Aegina Town captivates visitors with its charming harbour lined with cafés and fishing boats. The ancient Temple of Apollo stands proudly near the water, while neoclassical buildings in pastel hues create a picturesque backdrop. Wander through cobblestone streets to discover the Archaeological Museum, local pistachio vendors, and hidden courtyards where time seems to stand still. Waterfront tavernas serve fresh seafood and island specialities like pistachio-infused dishes. Stay in traditional guesthouses housed in historic buildings for an authentic experience. The compact town centre is perfect for exploring on foot, with most attractions just a short stroll from the bustling port.

Agia Marina

Agia Marina welcomes you with a postcard-perfect sandy beach stretching along the Saronic Gulf. Pine trees frame the shoreline where fishing boats bob in the harbour and traditional blue-and-white tavernas serve fresh seafood. The waterfront promenade buzzes with evening strollers enjoying golden sunsets and sea breezes. Wander through charming narrow streets or rent a paddleboard to explore the calm bay. Family-run hotels and guesthouses with sea-view balconies offer cosy spots to rest after beach days. Most visitors get around on foot, rental scooters, or water taxis that connect to nearby beaches during summer months. The relaxed evening scene centers around seaside dining rather than wild parties.

Perdhika

Perdhika's crescent harbour captures everything magical about small Greek fishing villages. Colourful boats bob beside waterfront tavernas while whitewashed houses with blue shutters line cobblestone paths. Take a dip in crystal-clear swimming spots or stroll the pedestrian-friendly promenade. The village church stands watch over this slice of authentic Aegean life. Family-run seafood tavernas serve fresh catches and traditional mezze with sunset views worth savouring. Getting around is easy on foot, though visitors typically arrive by hire car or taxi from Aegina Town. The peaceful evenings focus on harbourside dining with the gentle soundtrack of waves against stones.

Souvala

Souvala welcomes you with a beautiful sandy beach and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming. This small coastal resort town on Aegina island balances tourist appeal with authentic Greek charm. Stroll the charming seafront promenade lined with tavernas serving fresh seafood, or watch local fishermen bring in their daily catch at the picturesque harbour. Traditional tavernas offer delicious Greek specialities including locally-grown Aegina pistachios. Small family-run hotels and seaside apartments provide comfortable places to stay with genuine Greek hospitality. Most visitors arrive by ferry and explore the waterfront on foot, though rental cars help navigate the hilly inland terrain.

Vagia

Vagia's pristine pebble beach and crystal clear turquoise waters make it the perfect escape from Aegina's busier spots. Traditional white-washed houses cascade down gentle hillsides towards the Saronic Gulf. Visit the nearby Profitis Ilias Parish or take a short trip to the magnificent Temple of Aphaea for a dose of ancient history. Family-run tavernas serve fresh seafood and Greek classics at prices that won't break the bank. Accommodation options include charming guesthouses and traditional stone houses with basic amenities but plenty of authentic character. Getting around requires rental scooters or taxis, as public transport is limited.

"The staff here are all very helpful, you can ask them any questions from food to tours to personal drivers pick up and drop offs. Check in wasn’t until 3pm but they were able to give me my room by 12pm noon. The manager George also very generous. After checking out, they gave me a small Gold membership which gives me complementary wine and huge discounts on future stays! I will definitely come back! It’s also in the heart of Plaka, everything walking distance from food to the Acropolis!"

"I loved that the hotel was in close proximity to many of the attractions, restaurants, and shops. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. I found this bed to be the most comfortable out of all my European stays. My only complaint is the staff didn’t explain how the key system worked. I had to figure it out by learning from other guests. But I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel."

For those seeking unique accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and can sometimes offer better value.
