Southsea
Southsea's seafront promenade wraps you in salty air and postcard-worthy views of the English Channel. History buffs can explore Henry VIII's castle or dive into D-Day exhibits, while fun-seekers hit South Parade Pier or catch shows at Kings Theatre. The sprawling Southsea Common hosts festivals where you can picnic with naval ships drifting by in the distance. Victorian B&Bs and boutique hotels offer cosy places to crash after a day of beach lounging. Dining ranges from traditional fish and chips to upscale seafood spots with ocean views. Excellent bus connections make city exploration a breeze, while the flat terrain is perfect for leisurely coastal walks.

Portsmouth City Centre
Portsmouth City Centre dazzles with its epic naval heritage, where centuries-old ships and modern attractions play nicely together. Stroll the Historic Dockyard to see HMS Victory's impressive masts, then hit Gunwharf Quays for shopping and that jaw-dropping Spinnaker Tower. The cobblestone streets wind past Tudor buildings while college students add youthful energy to this maritime playground. Waterfront restaurants serve fresh seafood with harbour views that'll make your Instagram followers jealous. You'll find everything from boutique hotels in historic buildings to standard chains, all within walking distance of major attractions. The Portsmouth & Southsea train station connects you easily to London and beyond when you're ready to explore further.

Old Portsmouth
Old Portsmouth delivers historic charm with medieval fortifications and maritime views that'll make your camera work overtime. The Round and Square Towers stand guard over cobblestone streets while Portsmouth Cathedral's Norman arches cast dramatic shadows. Wander past Tudor timber-framed houses to discover hidden courtyards and scenic spots overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and the Isle of Wight. Traditional British pubs dominate the food scene, serving hearty classics with harbour views. Most shops and attractions are within easy walking distance, though those cobblestones demand comfortable shoes. Boutique B&Bs in converted Tudor buildings offer authentic stays with exposed beams and period furnishings.
Cosham
Cosham offers a slice of authentic British suburban life with its charming Victorian railway station and traditional high street shops. The area makes a perfect home base for Portsmouth adventures without the tourist hustle. Kids will love PlayZone Portsmouth while adults can explore nearby Portsdown Hill for sweeping harbour views. A short train ride connects you to London or Portsmouth's main attractions. Local pubs serve hearty meals and the area's family-run guesthouses provide budget-friendly accommodation with personal touches. Getting around is easy with regular buses to Portsmouth centre and trains to regional destinations, making this quiet residential area ideal for travellers seeking authentic local experiences.

Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth - Gunwharf Quays by IHG
"Rather disappointed with my stay this time sadly. Although great location and very handy to have parking at a discounted rate, my room was scruffy. There was a dent in the wall, cups were dirty, ironing board fell down when I tried to use it and the phone didnt work. I did mention this to someone on the day I checked in and they said it would go on the maintenance schedule but it never got fixed. Little disappointed too not to have any Freeview channels. On the plus side, great to have air-conditioning and little extras like the ice machine on 2nd floor and suntan lotion dispenser at reception nice touches."

"Ideal for a pre cruise stopover"
Ashbys
"Definitely a gem in this cute seaside town. Host was so nice and helpful telling us about things to do in the area. The spa was awesome as well. Love the common areas as well. Room and beds were super comfy and well maintained."
The Queens Hotel
"This was a great experience. The staff is very friendly. Check in was more than accommodating."
Portsmouth Marriott Hotel
"Great stay for the day we spent. Staff were polite and helpful. Room was decent, breakfast was ok. Only negative was that the bed was very hard and caused me body pains the next day"
Southsea Rocks Hotel
"Good checkout - helpful & pleasant & staff. Very clean room - no problems. Enjoyed staying here - would return without hesitation."
Ship Leopard Hotel – No Children
"Every time we come to Portsmouth, we stay at this fabulous boutique hotel. David and Jeremy on reception pretty much seem to run the hotel. They are so kind, very helpful and always happy to have a chat. The rooms are very comfortable and if you get the harbour view rooms, the view of Spinnaker Tower and HMS Warrior is wonderful. With a two minute walk to the Historic Docks in one direction and a five minute walk to Gunwharf Quay in the other, the bus and train station being opposite the hotel too, this place could not be better situated."
Premier Inn Portsmouth Dockyard
"We liked every thing. Location was great!"
G Boutique Hotel
"Congenial staff at this property worked hard to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We were able to check in a bit earlier after a long travel day. Comfortable and spotlessly clean, each room whimsical in decor. Fantastic breakfast added to our quite lovely experience!"
