Gruene
Gruene's legendary dance hall beckons with toe-tapping country music and weathered wooden floors that tell stories of Texas past. The iconic water tower watches over 19th-century buildings filled with antique shops and local treasures. Grab your inner tube for a refreshing float down the Guadalupe River, or kick back on restaurant patios where live music drifts through the air. Texas BBQ joints and riverside restaurants serve up Hill Country specialities with a side of hospitality. Bed & breakfasts in historic homes offer charm and character for overnight stays. The compact historic core is easily walkable, though you'll want a car to explore beyond this preserved slice of German-Texan heritage.

Landa Park Highlands
Landa Park Highlands gives you front-row access to New Braunfels' natural playground without the tourist buzz. The area sits right next to the 196-acre Landa Park, where crystal-clear springs maintain a perfect 70-72°F year-round. Tube down the Comal River or take peaceful walks under mature oak trees while birds provide the soundtrack. Kids will love splashing at the nearby Schlitterbahn Waterpark or exploring the McKenna Children's Museum. You'll need wheels to get around this quiet residential area, as public transit is limited. Most visitors stay in holiday rentals or cosy bed & breakfasts that offer a genuine slice of Texas suburban life. The area itself has few dining options, so plan to drive into town when hunger strikes.

Lake Dunlap
Lake Dunlap delivers peaceful lakeside bliss just minutes from New Braunfels. Morning mist rises from glassy waters where fishing piers and boat launches invite you to cast a line or paddle out. The Guadalupe River flows nearby, offering tubing adventures and scenic spots to relax. Towering cypress trees frame the shoreline where you can spot herons and osprey. Holiday rentals and lakefront cabins make up most accommodation, many with private docks for easy water access. A car is essential as public transit is limited. Pack provisions in advance—dining options are sparse within the area but New Braunfels restaurants are a short drive away.

River Road
River Road pulses with the sound of rushing water and laughter as the Guadalupe River winds through New Braunfels. Colourful tube rental shops line the roadway alongside riverside bars where live music spills onto sun-drenched patios. Cypress trees shade natural swimming holes where families splash and play, while kayak launches buzz with activity during peak season. Riverside eateries serve up casual Texas fare with BBQ joints and Tex-Mex cantinas offering perfect post-river fuel. Most visitors stay in riverside resorts or holiday rentals with direct water access. A personal vehicle is your best bet for exploring this recreational paradise, as public transit options are limited.

Downtown
City centre New Braunfels celebrates its German roots with historic limestone buildings and the majestic Comal County Courthouse anchoring the central plaza. The legendary Phoenix Saloon serves up live music alongside streets that practically hum with Old World charm. Visitors float the crystal-clear Comal River just streets away, while shops filled with German imports and Texas treasures line the walkable streets. German-Texan fusion dominates the food scene with schnitzel, bratwurst, and local craft beer. Most attractions sit within a 3-block radius, making exploration on foot the ideal way to soak up this slice of Texas-German heritage. Historic bed & breakfasts in converted Victorian homes offer the perfect base for experiencing this cultural gem.

Grab an inner tube and surrender to the gentle current of the Comal River, where crystal-clear spring waters offer perfect respite from Texas heat. Schlitterbahn Waterpark delivers thrills with its massive slides and wave pools, creating memories that last longer than sunburns. The German heritage shines through during Wurstfest, when polka music and lederhosen seem perfectly normal accompaniments to sausage and craft beer. Historic Gruene Hall stands as Texas' oldest dance hall, where boot-scootin' happens beneath century-old rafters. Between river floats, explore downtown's charming shops housed in buildings that have witnessed generations of Texan-German fusion. The Brauntex Theatre's art deco marquee lights up evenings with performances that rival those in nearby San Antonio.

Wingate by Wyndham New Braunfels
"It was a great place, great location and will stay here again if in the area."
The Faust Hotel
"Beautiful hotel in the perfect location to everything downtown."
The Resort at Schlitterbahn
"There was no way to find entrance into a couple of the swimming pools that we were told we could use. Directions to get to our second place were not great, but that was partly the fault of our phones. The woman at the desk was helpful but we had trouble finding our place to stay. For example, at the time we found out we were at the exit instead of the entrance to the rooms, there was no gate code mentioned. We had to call again for the gate code. But it was very helpful that we were given a free night (because of a gas leak in the first place we had settled in)and upgraded to a nicer place. That was wonderful!"
Travelodge by Wyndham New Braunfels
"Great price friendly helpful staff"
Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham New Braunfels
"I thought everything was OK except for breakfast. They really don’t offer much of a breakfast, or at least what I like for breakfast. I like a hot breakfast with eggs, either sausage or bacon, or biscuits and gravy something like that. I’m not in a cold cereal or a hard boiled egg or a waffle. So I went without eating breakfast there."
Petit Cowboy
"We hosted our annual girls trip here and we had an amazing time at Petit Cowboy! We didn’t want to leave. It’s a great location. Our river float was so easy. They picked us up at the hotel entrance and dropped us off at our front door. The pool and property are so cute! The proximity to food and drinks from the pool was as convenient as it could possibly be. Drinks and food were tasty. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. The rooms are so clean and very cute! We did have 3 girls in our 2 queen room, our ONLY complaint was there is no full body mirror. It was difficult to get 3 women ready with the one tiny mirror in the bathroom. We will definitely be back next year."
Comfort Suites New Braunfels - San Antonio Area
"Everything was nice. The refrigerator in our room wasn't working but they got us taken care of right away! All staff was wonderful and so friendly! Breakfast was a bit limited but decent. All in all it was a pleasant comfortable 3 night stay!"
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham New Braunfels
"We had a one night trip to the area and needed a pet friendly place to stay. This location was perfect. The staff were very nice and professional during all interactions. The room was clean, and the bed was actually comfortable. Most hotels we stay at the mattresses are to hard and I do not sleep well. This one was great. The pool area was well maintained and easily located. Breakfast had lots of options. We brought out dog and had no issues. There is a easy to access pet area that was very near our room. They even provide bags for picking up after your dog."
Home2 Suites By Hilton New Braunfels
"Great location and had everything we wanted in a hotel room. Shampoo and conditioner were also great."
