I was excited to stay at Soma because I love the concept. The area has grown into a fun, walkable neighborhood with restaurants and things to do nearby, but keep in mind this is a transitional area and I would caution venturing too far off the Main Street at night.
Check-in was easy. Unfortunately, we found fire ants on the bed upon arrival. The host responded quickly and moved us to another room within 10 minutes, which I appreciated.
The replacement room, however, had a spider hanging from the ceiling, sheets and robes that appeared unclean with hair, and glasses left by the bed. Since it was around midnight, we stayed and notified the host the next morning. They apologized and had the sheets changed.
I also paid for a premium courtyard-view suite. Our replacement room lacked the courtyard view, and while I was told it was still a premium suite, it wasn’t the room type I booked. I’m not looking for unreasonable compensation. A refund of the price difference would have shown the hotel stood behind its reservations.
Soma has a lot of potential, and the staff was responsive throughout our stay. However, housekeeping and quality control need improvement. I genuinely hope they work through these issues because I’d love to see them succeed.
