Learn more about Akureyri
Beneath snow-capped mountains, this northern capital offers unexpected delights at every turn. Dip into the Forest Lagoon's geothermal waters while gazing across the fjord at winter's alpenglow. Whale watching boats depart daily from the harbour, where captains speak of humpbacks with familiar affection. The botanical garden defies its Arctic location with thousands of thriving plant species. After dark, the northern lights often perform their ethereal dance above town. Hafnarstræti's microbreweries pour craft beers with quirky names while locals debate summer's midnight sun versus winter's ski slopes at Hlíðarfjall. The Aviation Museum and Nonnahús offer cultural respite when the weather turns, though locals insist there's no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.

Hotel Sveinbjarnargerdi
"Beautiful views and an easy stop on my travels!"
Skald Akureyri, Curio Collection by Hilton
"Our stay had a disappointing beginning, but the hotel made a real effort to recover it. We booked a Junior Suite through Expedia, but at check-in we were placed in a one-bedroom apartment in a separate building and were told it was an upgrade. We had not been informed about the change or asked whether we wanted it. Although the apartment may technically be a higher category, for us it was not an upgrade because we specifically wanted to stay in the main hotel rather than walk outside to access the hotel facilities. Our first dinner was also very disappointing. After our first course, we waited almost an hour for the second course and eventually gave up and left the hotel to find dinner elsewhere. To her credit, the restaurant manager apologized sincerely and did not charge us for the first course. The following morning we explained everything to the front-desk manager. She handled the situation professionally. The hotel moved us into the Junior Suite we had originally booked, and invited us back for a complimentary dinner. Dinner was excellent. We appreciated the effort they made to recover our stay. Skáld is a beautiful new hotel and our Junior Suite was lovely, the view from the window is much nicer than the one-bedroom. There were clearly some service and communication issues during our visit, but I also want to recognize the staff who listened to our concerns and worked to make things right. I hope the hotel can improve these areas because the property itself is great"

"Great place to stay! Everything is in high quality! Free laundry is really helpful! Thank you!"
Centrum Hotel
"Central location. Nice big rooms which we appreciated. Comfy beds with a small kitchen. Nice looking breakfast spread although we didn’t partake and went elsewhere. Only reason I wouldn’t give it full marks is the lack of functioning TV, despite staff efforts and kind offers they made to move us to another room to watch there: it was a bit inconvenient to traipse down to reception each time to get a key, so we didn’t bother. I would ignore normally, but this seemed to be a well-known issue, and with an easy fix. I hope they can resolve and the place would be perfect!"
Hotel Akureyri
"Beautiful European style hotel right in the center of walking amenities in town. Very delicious breakfast buffet. The rooms are small, but well appointed and comfortable."
Akureyri - Berjaya Iceland Hotels
"The lady at the reception was super friendly, helpful and accommodating. Very impressed and thankful."

You can enjoy activities such as whale watching, visiting cafes and museums, hiking, and sightseeing, as well as experiencing the northern lights. This timeframe provides great value for money, allowing you to explore beautiful gardens, swimming spots, and shopping opportunities while sticking to your budget.

- Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates might help you save on your stay in an Akureyri hotel. If you're after something a bit different, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher side, we'll suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable, helping you to secure a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually tend to be pricier, but thanks to Akureyri's fantastic public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that’s still well linked. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there’s often excellent value for money to be found.
