Inexpensive alternative but had issues
It was noisy being on 2 major streets. When I put the shower overhead on it sprayed the whole room including the sink and mirror. No clue how to stop that. When I put the handheld spray on it shot across the shower. I grabbed the towels off the shelf before they were soaked. However, I had to constantly hold it or everything got soaked.

Very accommodating but not comfortable.
We were able to check in early and everyone was very nice and accommodating. But we were supposed to have queen beds and the beds were NOT queens, and they were very uncomfortable. The shower soaked the bathroom.

On a scale of 1-5 = 3
The Hotel was in a good area. But for the price I think the could have done more. The rooms are slightly dated and can use a pick me up. The staff were ok but it was minimal interaction. Was I wowed or impressed, no it was a decent stay. I would have paid $100-$200 cheaper. Your paying for area but for the price I would have stayed actually in Times Square and probably would’ve been offered breakfast. Again not a bad stay but not wow either. I stayed 2 nights I don’t think I would want to stay more.

Disappointed in this hotel.
Room was noisy and somewhat shabby. Disappointing.
Saving grace is location. Easy access to Met Opera.

Enjoyed the Empire
Enjoyed our time at The Empire. The staff was great, the room was fine. Comfortable bed and clean. The window coverings did not open, that was a bummer as we would have loved some bright sunshine in the morning as we got ready but that is really the only negative about our stay.

Great location but room found wanting...
Location excellent. Room very basic and on the older side with bathroom sink and shower that did not function well (e.g., sink facet too low so difficult to put hand under facet). We specifically asked for room in higher floor with view (and waited a few min after check in time for room to be ready) but received room on the 1st floor facing street. Also room only had to soap when we got into room.

Old, tiny and dirty.
The hotel’s location is good but that’s about all it has going for it. The rooms are tiny and the bathrooms even tinier! The place is old and a lot of the room is falling apart. The heater/air conditioning unit looks to be about 100 years old and you have zero control over the temp. Wood falling apart, toilet running, shower falling apart. Also, no food of any kind in the hotel and not even a coffee maker in the room. Would not stay here again!!

Pay through the nose for location
It wasn’t worth $1,000/night to stay there. The room was small. The bathroom was tiny. There was no thermostat so adjusting the temperature was difficult. The bed was hard as a rock, as were the pillows. The devil/design was nice. The hallways were very dark. The only real plus was the location. Not sure that’s enough to justify the price.
