Absolutely TOP LOCATION and accommodation.
We are a well-travelled couple in our 50s and spent a few days enjoying the German Christmas market experience. I have to say that this is the cleanest hotel we've ever stayed in - we never found a fingerprint! The room an bed were spacious. The bathroom was clean enough to eat in and even the hotel lifts were pristine. The location, in the 'Platzl' district is perfect for Munich Old Town; our rear hotel room overlooked the Hoffbrauhaus - literally across the street! We were initially perturbed by this but can honestly say that our sleep wasn't disturbed in the slightest. The double (treble?) glazed windows were truly exceptional in excluding any outside sound. The hotel is around the corner (3 min walk) from the Munich's famous 'Marienplatz' one side of which is occupied by the magnificent gothic 'Rathaus' . Also, right next door is a fantastic authentic German restaurant called Haxnbaum - seriously, you need not look elsewhere for Pork Knuckle, Schnitzel etc. The fantastic 'Victualien Market' with all its fresh produce and meat feast temptations is also only a 5 minute walk. Seriously you won't find a better location. The hotel staff? Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them; my wife forgot an adapter for her phone-charger, the reception found her one in 2 minutes. They even advised us on the cheapest rail tickets for a trip to Regensburg. We have nothing but good things to say about the hotel and staff. Thank you so much, we'll be back. AA+++

Great location, wouldn’t stay at this hotel again
The Marionplatz location is excellent, but the hotel itself is not. You can hear noise from the surrounding rooms, beside, above and below. The staff at the buffet breakfast were disorganized and did not provide timely service for juice, coffee and clearing-aside from one lovely woman. We were there for a week and this was the case each day. Their hotel kitchen has ventilation problems and strong cooking odours (cabbage) seeped into our room on two of the seven days. As other reviewers noted, if you open your window and it backs onto the courtyard you will get cooking odours there too because they have 3 large exhaust fans located there. Also, we received a very perfunctory greeting by Stephanie at reception when checking in and she initially put us in an uncomfortably small room despite having booked a superior king bed room for the week. She moved us to a larger room when we called the front desk to ask for the proper room size but the room she then gave us was on the 2nd floor and above the kitchen. We had unpacked and settled in before we realized the kitchen odour issue and had lost confidence in the hotel by this point so we made the best of our room situation. The bar adjacent to the lobby was empty the week we were there. The pluses were the location in Marionplatz-we loved Munich and especially the old city-housekeeping was prompt. The food at the breakfast buffet was decent. We will return to Munich, stay in Marionplatz but choose a different hotel.

Nice place but...
This hotel has an excellent location, is pleasantly decorated and clean, and offers a superb breakfast buffet. I would give it an excellent review but for the fact that the room we reserved, and paid for in advance, was not available when we checked in. We were told it was simply not possible for us to have that room because there were no more left. We booked a superior double room with a king bed and were given instead a room with two twin beds at the end of a dark corridor. After some discussion, and proving to the reception desk with my Expedia print-out that I had in fact booked and paid for what I claimed I did, we were offered a lesser category room, much smaller, but at least with a queen bed and in a brighter spot in the hotel. The fact that we were only there for one night (which reception alluded to repeatedly) appeared to inform the less than careful and straightforward treatment we received. In terms of the price difference for the lesser room, we were told to take it up with Expedia as the hotel could do nothing about it. Had it not been for this issue, the hotel would have gotten my wholehearted recommendation. I have been booking hotels and air travel through Expedia for many years and have always been pleased that the product I purchase is the one that I receive. That was not the case on this occasion.

Charged three time for the same stay!
Firstly, I've marked the hotel down because they managed to charge me twice for the room over and above the fact I'd already paid the full amount when I booked last Oct. They assured us on check in that my credit card details were needed for any extra's we may add. The girl on reception had to do that twice because it didn't work the first time! I get home to find my account has been debited twice more and I'm currently trying to get my money back asap!!! As for the hotel, it's nice, clean and in a really central spot. The only gripe would be the room was red hot, the air con seemed to do nothing, plus the maid had a policy of closing the windows even when they were just "snicked" slightly.

Right in the middle of everything
Great hotel, this was my second time. Staff was very professional, very curtious, very friendly. You can easily catch a train / subway to and from this location to everywhere including the airport and central station. Marienplatz station is only about 2 blocks from the hotel and a trip to the airport is cheap and only about thirty minutes in time. The location is in the charming old part of the city with quiet narrow streets. The Rathaus (city hall) is a must see, especially at 12 noon when the bell start ringing. There are life size figures that move along in the tower when the bells ring, do an internet search for "Glockenspiel at Marienplatz". St. Peters Church and Frauenkirche are "must see" attractions. I highly recommend Hofbräuhaus München, the Bavarian food, beer, and music are great, order the pork shoulder or knuckle, you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is really festive and enjoyable. After a long day of walking and sightseeing go up to the 5th floor of the hotel and visit the remarkable sauna and lounge area to relax and rejuvenate.
