Lovely little place but needs some TLC
The hotel grounds are lovely very authentic, the staff dont speak much english so communicaton was difficult but we got there. We had requested 2 rooms next to each other bu tthey were round the corner form each other? and ground floor due to my son have a disability but was given first floor which was suprised because 90% of the rooms were ground floor? but we managed so didnt bother complaining. The rooms were dirty and smelly, they really need a good freshen up, but they had air con, beds were made every day and fresh water was supplied every day. We didnt use the restaurant so i cannot comment on that. The hotel is based in a huntong just off a main road. The road had a subway which took you to every where and anywhere and was the cleanist and most efficant subway i have ever used, the road also had shops, restaurants, macdonalds and was local to the bell tower. Overall was a lovely place just needs some TLC on the rooms.

Not what you see on Expedia's photos
We booked this hotel because it had a great location and a good price. Arriving at the hotel the staff gave us a super small room (only one person can walk by it's side between the bed and the wall) all the paper wall was falling, humidity everywhere, and the most important thing is that it doesn't match the photo that we saw at Expedia while reserving, nothing to do with it. We had to pay more for another room and it was almost in the same conditions, so we had to ask for another room and pay more than planned, so we could get a "normal" room. But even after paying more the room had the wall paper falling too, and the smell of humidity was less, but still strong. The hotel in general is very nice, but they don't take care of it and it looked really bad, like if they don't care about it. The staff terrible. We asked them to help us getting a taxi (it's a basic thing that any hotel can do) but they say "NO". One of us speaks Chinese, so there was no confusion with the language, they just said "No".

Good location, but old facility
Next to the subway station. Great location (walkable) to Shishahai area - where the night clubs, Prince Gong's palace and many other tourist destinations. The room looks very old and the house keeping didn't do a great job - there was an old underwear in the corner under the seats in my room... Quite gross.

Great location, next to Shishahai area where many tourist attractions are. 1 min walk to subway.

2/10 Poor

Solux not very lux
Stayed at the hotel for four nights. In a king room (very small), the condition of the room was pretty poor. the walls were crumbling at the bottom due to wear and mold. we had problems with the toilet almost every day. The hotel staff was unhelpful. we asked for help getting around the area and trying resolve some travel issues and they would just say no. The site said they staff was multi lingual, but almost all did not understand English. The rooms were also court yard style which in pictures looks amazing but most of the other guest would let their children run around starting at 7:30 AM which was very disruptive.

Nice Location but dirty floor
Stayed for 4 nights. Very nice location and just 2 mins walk to subway station. And located in a quite small street. Actually, the hotel is transformed from Temples with very nice Chinese traditional decoration. Housekeeping only change towels and tidy the bed only. The carpet floor is very dirty and seems not vacuum for a long time. Better bring along your slippers as hotel do not supply slipper.

About as good as you can get
If you're a college/graduate student and you're just traveling by yourself or with some friends, this is probably the kind of place you'll be okay with, especially at this price. Nothing outrageously terrible happened during my stay at this place; it was, in general, pleasant. I wasn't expecting much for a cheap hotel which is decently connected to the main attractions in Beijing, so I was quite surprised by the level of comfort afforded by the Soluxe. Again, you're not going to get what you would normally associate with "four stars" if you were raised in the U S of A like I was. But if you remember to bring your shower shoes and your own toiletries you can get the hotel selection out of the way and just go back to planning the rest of your trip.

Smoke from another room poured into mine. Hard beds. Hope to stay somewhere else next time even if this location is good.

Very Cultural Chinese Experience
Enjoyed the environment, a little difficult to find and if you use a taxi driver you have to have the address in Chinese.

Not sure if we got a good deal...
This hotel was in a pretty rugged neighborhood. Not dangerous, just sort of on the raggedy edge of dangerous. The buildings themselves were cool and in decent shape, dating from the 1400s if you believe the plaques on them. The beds were like 4x8 sheets of plywood. We had to get extra blankets and comforters and create a decent cushion on top of the beds. The towels, while clean, bordered on threadbare. We were looking for something with a local flavor rather than going with to a Hyatt or Westin. We got it. Be careful what you wish for. Would not stay there again.

Not up to the mark
The actual recor is not as per web. Not really special. Service from the staff was poor. The room is small and cool. The surrounding area and air qualify was poor. Not value for money.

Overpriced hotel
Pro: quiet and safe place, very close to metro, in a walking distance from downtown attractions. By the way you can observe hutongs around the hotel. Many places to eat local and international food around. Rather good wifi (better than in some more expensive hotels in Beijing). Linen, towels and bathroom facilities are clean. The teapot and hairdrier are provided (as generally in every Chinese hotel). The staff speak English. Contra: The sockets do not always hold the plugs, the wallpaper comes off. The floor is dirty in some places. The bathroom has only a shower with a curtain and two holes in the floor, thus all the floor around becomes wet. The hotel was overpriced (don't pay more than $40 for a single room)

great hotel for vacation
This hotel turned out to be a nice surprise! It's very close to the subway station (about 1 minute walk), which makes our travel to every destination super convenient and easy! It's located in the old part of Beijing where there are a lot of traditional looking houses, the hotel itself is located in the house of an ancient official from more than 200 years ago, the house is very well maintained, has a beautiful garden, is very quiet and clean, looks as nice as all the pictures on Expedia's web site. The price is very reasonable too. We especially were impressed by all the friendly and knowledgable staff. Highly recommend this hotel to any one visiting Beijing!

In the heart of Beijing's real life!
The hotel is very nice, very quiet, in an old temple and palace, with feng shui installations (a great fountain in the yard). And all around you get into the real chinese life, with many people selling, walking, cycling, living. Good restaurants and popular and historical spots all over, and a little further: bars, night life, temples, parcs and lakes. BUT the staff, as almost everyone in China, speaks little english (not to say french or spanish!); and the rooms are small and the cleaning is not perfect. Nevertheless, the mattress was perfect, the bathroom very nice and we had good sleep!

Next to school and building site
The hotel facilities and staff were pretty typical for Chinese run hotels, not all bad, but lacking in always somewhat lacking. The big problem was the location. The hotel is indeed located right next to the subway station, and that is a blessing, but all the interesting neighborhoods around the hotel have been torn down and replaced by a huge building site. So the only thing left is an elementary school next door, which keeps using its outdoor PA-system for hours every weekday.

Some boxes ticked, but not all......
Chose the hotel for it's style and location, near a metro station and in a hutong. Yes the map is wrong ( take note Hotels.com ), but once found is convenient to lots of street food and cafes. Note, that these are not open early,so you'll need to suffer the hotel stodge - high on carbs, but very low on greens, meats and imagination. My major problem was in booking in when they wanted to put me in the most miserable, dank, windowless room in the joint. They seemed to have issues with booking from Hotels.com ( lost or too much commission, they weren't saying...) so I had a slight disagreement with them. Given it was about 20% full they could have upgraded me. This is not the 1st time this has happened in China. The fools then tried to sell me local tour packages the next day - not likely sunshine! NOTE TO HOTEL MANAGEMENT clients who book on-line are very savvy and CHOOSE your hotel, so treat us with a bit more respect. Yes, the rooms were clean, and cleaned every day. And yes, if I paid more for a Courtyard room, I might have had a happier experience.

Problems with plumbing. Shower drain is a hole in the floor, which would be just fine as shower worked fantastic, but it would drain so slowly everything flooded.
