The girls that checked me in were great. The younger guy who works late is efficient. More personable. The older of the 2 guys is not friendly and you might think this was my first stay. I booked a room for 2 and the night person on Saturday said my friend had to leave at 9:30 which disturbed my friend and angered me. Why did I pay for 2? It’s not like I abuse the hotel with noise, parties or do anything that is abusive of hotel policies. I’m quiet and not rude in any way. I have not booked for months because of his rudeness. I prefer to stay where I’m appreciated. I asked once for an upgrade and he said rudely if you pay extra. Asked for a fan on a hot night and he ignored my request. The music across the street kept us awake. It went on until morning. The price is good, but I could pay a little more with no anxiety or noise.

Large room, good price, strong and stable internet, large shower with plenty of hot water. Since this is not an air conditioned hotel I requested a fan and really got no response? It would have made the room more comfortable if the air circulated, especially since the weather was hot. Little comforts make a difference.

6/10 Good

Location was good and within walking distance of El Centro. The Internet was strong and stable. Shower as always was hot and strong. Bed comfortable. The room was extremely hot with no fan to circulate the air. Opening the small window allowed the noise level to be high. The room was tiny. I requested an upgrade, as I have stayed here many times before. The desk person snidely said only if I paid extra? He could have been pleasant and said sorry, but the hotel was full. It was not full. It was 12 USD to upgrade and not a large amount for customer appreciation. I will consider other options based on declining my request in such an abrupt manner and the heat in the tiny room. I did not sleep well for 2 nights.

Hotel Escala is consistently excellent. The hotel is clean, quiet and the staff is the best. The room is large, as is the bathroom. The shower is large, water pressure is strong, water hot. Internet is consistent and strong. The hotel is about a 7 or 8 minute walk to the Cathedral and Zocalo. Many restaurants and coffee shops 6 to 9 minutes from hotel. The price is excellent!

Excellent hotel
Absolutely amazing hotel with English speaking staff. Extremely helpful in helping us book a hiking trip. Rooms are spotless and only a 5 block walk to the main Plaza. This is definitely a hotel I would book again. The neighborhood is NOT dangerous as mentioned in some reviews. We walked at night without a problem.

This is a great hotel with very modern design, yet unique with stone walls, inside garden areas and quiet. The rooms are large, huge shower with hot shower. The internet was great and stable. The bed was a huge king and for me very comfortable. The area around the hotel is marginal, but I have never felt unsafe. It close to the the Zocalo, far enough that is quiet. The price is really great. My 3rd stay and I will stay 5 nights for the New Year.

This is the second stay and the hotel is really great It hits all of my needs like fast internet, large, comfortable bed, hot and powerful shower. Staff is excellent, including Jesus who cleaned my room and we had a great conversation. The area is what it is. Don’t be stupid and flash your jewels. My only complaint is Saturday night with a rock concert right by the hotel. The noise went on until 4 am. I could not sleep. Staff should have made guests aware that this was going on. No one said a thing. I was not happy because usually this hotel is very quiet and Saturday was terrible.

6/10 Good

Acceptable for the money, neighborhood is very neglected and full of ruins. Not very safe during nighttime I needed a hotel for a night when all my to-go places went up like crazy due to some useless concert event in Puebla so I left my 5Star place (yes I am cheap sometimes) just for this Saturday night and found this one on orbitz for like 20$. Ok, it’s situated in the beginnings of Analco ,one of Puebla’s founding neighborhoods from the 1500s but unfortunately they never cleaned it up ever after since then. The neighborhood looks worse than a Brazilian favela (yes I’ve been lots of times to Brazil) .This hotel used to be a capital o before now it’s been renovated and inside pretty much acceptable. Got an economy room (really nothing to brag about) and was happy to have avoided the 300$ room in my other hotel. Well, outside it’s an old street from the 1600s and earlier, half of the street is in ruins, not joking, looks like a war zone. Berlin looked better in 1945. There are 2 buildings standing, one is the hotel. It’s dirty and more than neglected outside, the hotel itself is like an old estancia inside with all the rooms having windows which face to the inner court. To be honest you don’t want to see the dump outside anyway. The reception guys efficient and fast, the girl very helpful, she got me a fan (yes,no air conditioning inside,no problem in October but during summer certainly an issue ) and ask for the faster wifi connection as my room (106) didn’t get reception
