Caught off guard by the smell
I have stayed at Staybridge Suites in the past both in the US and in the UK. The best one I've ever stayed at was in the UK. That one met the standards for cleanliness, service, Etc. The one in Cranbury, New Jersey is in need of some improvements. I've stayed there in the past but this time was particularly concerning because of the foul odor in the room that met me as soon as I opened the door. It's a good thing I travel with peppermint oil because I had to spray the entire room with it including the carpet to kill the smell. It's obvious that they don't do a thorough job of cleaning because if they did the room wouldn't have such a terrible odor. There was also a constant smell of marijuana from a first floor unit close to the exit. I remember the last time I stayed there that same room had marijuana coming from it. Maybe that's the designated marijuana rental unit.
The hotel is in need of a number of updates. It's set up as an extended stay for business Travelers with conveniences and amenities such as a laundry room and a gym. The laundry room has machines that are old and of the two washers only one was working and of the four dryers one was inoperative.
The gym was very good for it's small size. It was equipped with a treadmill, elliptical and a bike along with free weights and benches and an exercise ball. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was good.
