Poor security and stressful checkin
Having booked two premium rooms with balcony and city view, we were looking forward to a good stay. However , not so happy experience at the front desk marred the joy of being there. The lady at the front desk informed us that our booking did not specify city view and she would give us courtyard view. Having stayed there before we know that courtyard is actually a tiny bit of enclosed green space and you are actually peeping into other guests’ rooms. And there are NO balconies. She then told us that she could give us one room with city view but one with courtyard. We were tired and it was close to 5:30 pm. We asked if the rooms were ready but she replied that one room was not (though the check out time is noon). Finally our son talked to someone else and managed to get a higher floor room but not with balcony. GUESTS BEWARE Hilton Amsterdam, despite being a standard hotel chain does not offer any security. The very next day , my backpack with Wallet and cash was stolen from the breakfast room where only checked in guests are allowed. When we raised the alarm the staff showed Sympathy and the duty manager arranged for a cab to the police station. We expect at least some security in a standard hotel when paying high tariff for comfort and exclusivity. Hilton Amsterdam has very lax security and its free for all to walk-in. Infact there is no security to deter the thieves. This stay was definitely one of the worst experience we had on this trip.

Good points and bad points
Hotel Lobby is stunning and the staff are very helpful. For us, it was the rooms that let the stay down. The rooms themselves are fine- pretty basic, clean but nothing special. When we went to see ourselves into our room, the corridors were all lined with items such as dirty plates, excess food, drinks etc. These were clearly left by the cleaners when doing check-out cleans in the rooms - but had not been collected when we returned to our hotel room 7 hours later! This was a daily occurrence. The corridors also stink of cannibis- fine for the streets of Amsterdam but not a smell thats nice to have in your hotel! Also, the doors in the hotel do not shut lightly - there is no fixture in place for a "soft close". As its such a busy hotel and people come and go all the time, doors are slamming really loudly all throughout the night meaning very little sleep was had the entire stay! The staff could not have been more accommodating for us, the breakfast was great and the sky lounge is fantastic - but the room itself was a let down for us.

Not great suite for new year in room dining
VERY disappointed by the in room dining at New Year’s Eve. Not festive at all and left with salat, pizza and sushi. We booked a suite and got an room with partial view of the fireworks, so overall I highly recommend you going somewhere else if you like us was planning a romantic New Years dinner and the kid sleeping in the room. But the party option for couples or singles might be better than for a family like us

Good but some issues
The hotel has great location, very easy to walk or ride to anywhere. We had a really bad experience with the room service. The menu for room service is very poor with only a few choice of dishes. We called room service for over an hour before getting any answer, when the food arrived it was horrible, food had no taste at all and pizza is terrible, taste as a frozen pizza. Also, you have to pay 5,50 euros for the room service. We complained with the hotel and we didnt pay for the room service. In overall the hotel is really good situated, the restaurant is great (we had breakfast and dinner) and the team is very nice. Although I think room service and bathroom does not represent the Hiton name, deffinetely needs to ameliorate.

We were woke up on the second day to see if our room wanted cleaning even though we rang down to say we’d rather have the 1000 points than have our room closed. We had to ask for milk for tea as there wasn’t any. The bedroom overall was good and the staff were all very polite. The sky bar could do with More organisation though, but it’s a lovely bar.
