2/10 Poor

liked nothing about the hotel. front desk service is very aggressive and threatening to " will get you out of hotel" for complaining about their service. very uncomfortable attitude. very inconvenient to get to your room . AC mediocre, bathrooms horrible. food and restaurant staff were ok . most people we met in crete ( except for people at front desk) were pretty nice. no reason to stay there , plenty of other good hotels around

6/10 Good

Great hotel, but bad food
Lovely hotel. Comfortable good size rooms. They whole place is very attractive and the pool area is a real treat. You need a car to experience this area properly. Neither of us drive, so we used the hotel shuttle service to the bus stop and then used public transport to get to Rethymno. Further out then we thought but gorgeous scenery. Two big down sides for us was the quality and variation of food and the price of drinks. The bar was extortionate. A half draft pint cost almost €5 and the cheapest wine was around €8 for a pretty poor quality wine. The food was very similar for each meal and over salted. The hotel says they use local farm produce, but if this is the case there is no need. They cover up any flavours with salt. The dining room is also FULL of flys, dead and alive, and we found them buried in the food at the buffet. After that we stopped eating in the hotel, despite paying for half board. If you can pay for just a room, or even bed and breakfast I'd recommend this hotel. Go to a local supermarket for drinks and snarks, then rent a car and explore the beauty of Crete.

Rimondi Grand Resort & Spa, Crete - October 2013
Prior to our stay at the Rimondi Grand Resort & Spa I read the trip advisor reviews and as suggested we hired a car for the whole of our stay. We were able to travel around the island with ease as nearly all areas could be reached by one road that spanned most of the island. The hotel was set on a hillside and the top of the hotel could be seen from the road & it then cascaded downwards into olive groves. The scenery was stunning & there were fantastic sea views. The whole of the hotel was clean & contemporary & the location was very peaceful. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We took full advantage of the Spa facilities & treatments on offer which were great value for money. This was a fantastic experience & the spa manager Agira was such a great hostess. The infinity pool looked inviting but was unheated and was extremely cold and as a result was not well used by guests & this is an area that could be improved. We often travelled into the city of Rethimnon of an evening which was only 20 minutes from the hotel & had the usual gift shops & restaurants you expect on holiday but then merged into a trendy set of bar, restaurants and shopping lanes near to the Fort. We also discovered the delightful fishing village of Panormo which had a couple of great beaches and a number of restaurants & other gorgeous nearby beaches well worth a visit to were Bali, Fodele Bay & Agia Pelagia.

Wonderful Resort......but
Rimondio Grand is a top quality resort with all of the holiday essentials (and non-essentials) you would want. The accomodation is everything you would hope for - clean, modern, stylish. Maid servce is provided every day and you have the ability to change bedding and towels every day as required. Free beach towels are provided courtesy of the Rimondi Grand Spa. The staff are truly exceptional - everyone from reception, the bars, restaurant and maintenance will always go that little bit further for you. so why 'but'? Well, it;s obvious the resort hasn't been completely finished (presumably as a result of the global recession) and this has had the unfortunate knock-on of meaning the surrounding area has suffered also. Beyond the hotel bar/restaurant there is only one local alternative - a friendly taverna around the corner - which is highly recommended. for those who like to get out and about. The alternatives are the shuttle service the resort runs to it's (presumably) sister hotel on the beach a couple of kilometers away meaning you are tied to their schedule for getting there/back (it is a long 2 kilometers back up to the resort as it on a hill, by foot). the onkly other option is to go into Rethymno town (bus 1.6 euro one way) or taxi (18 euro one way). so all in all, the resort itself is of top quality but it suffers from lack of alternatives if you like to explore.

Mid 20's Couple - 7 days
27 year old Couple. We visited the Rimondi Grand between 18th and 25th May 2013. We flew to Chania/Xania/Hania Airport and we were quoted a price of 170 euros for transfers...when we got there.. we saw why..it was quite far from both airports...even if we flew to Herkalion/Iraklion. We instead hired a car from an international rental company for 124 GBP for 7 days.. which worked out cheaper. Driving there on the right side of the road was a bit difficult at first, but got used to it after driving at 30/40kmph everywhere..even on the Motorways. Crete has one main highway along the north coast and it has amazing driving views all along. When we got to Rimondi, we were really impressed, ample parking space for our hire car. Nice seren location locate dup in the Mountains.. not too difficult to find with a European Garmin Sat Nav. We checked in and they gave us a nice fresh fruit cocktail on arrival and the porter carried our luggage form our car to the reception area for us. Then he put it onto a golf buggy, yes a golf buggy and drove us around the winding hilly paths through the hotel complex as close as he could to our Room. Our room was the Standard Room and was very very well kept and extremely clean, couldn't spot a spec of dust in there at all! We had a sofa area with a 26'' LCD TV and a balcony with views over the Mountains and 2 chairs and a table on the balcony too. A lovely comfy suede Sofa was there and the bathroom had some nice smelly mango shower gels! :) The bedroom was smaller than expected, but the bed was HUGE and really comfortable. The digital safe was easy to use and the Hotel Room felt secure enough to leave inexpensive belongings out. The Hotel restaurant served some good food for Lunch and I had the Buffet dinner one night which was pretty good. The vege choices weren't all that great, but the staff were accomodating and willing to make alternative vege options for my partner. The Breakfast buffet was pretty good too, Antonios was always there smily, chirpy and happy so early in the morning. There was lots of fresh fruit and different foods to try and the breakfast/lunch/dinner hall also had views over the mountains. The only downside of the hotel is that the beach isn't nearer/more accessible from the hotel. We got a parking ticket on our first day when we parked somewhere we shouldn't have. Rimondi Staff, in particular Vicky, were great and helped translate the ticket and assured us all would be ok, she even came outside of her working hours to help us appeal the ticket on the grounds that we were visitors to Greece. That is definitely Rimondi Staff going THE EXTRA MILE FOR US!!! We got a 40 euro fine as the authority didn't let us off so easily, but it didn't ruin our stay. The hotel is a 15-20 minute dirve from Rethmynon which has a lovely beach (Ikarus) and had many outdoor bars/eateries and shopping! We drove to Heraklion one day and toured the town there too which was very nice. Rimondi is a great hotel to stay at, clean, great staff and the only downside is that the beach isn't more accesible and that the spa facilities aren't included for guests to use included in the price of the Hotel. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this hotel.

Hillside resort - newly opened.
Lovely to have a sizeable suite at this hotel - Two balconies. one facing the sea and clean, spacious rooms. The location is about 2km away from the coast, not remote, but not many other facilities nearby. Rethymon is about 15 minutes by car. Good points are the beautiful outdoor pool, ample car parking, sense of peace and quiet and mountain views. We didn't feel the restaurant was at its best. Breakfast was of variable quality and didnt seem fresh. The meals we had had some reasonable plates, but also a few disappointments. Overall theres not much to find fault with, and problems were quickly dealt with, but I felt the service could do with a bit more warmth and charm and be more engaged.

Amazing!
From the moment we arrived at the hotel we knew it would be a special trip. The hotel is beautiful, the staff are incredibly helpful and the setting was superb! My only one slight gripe was the distance from the beach but it spoilt nothing. Planning our next visit.

Resort to rest
Our stay at the Rimondi Gran Resort @ Spa has been good overall. There are several points to mention, the buffet is good and complete, the staff is very nice at all times. Our room was semi-new and clean. As cons we can say that the shuttle bus to the city is chargeable (8€ each way), a taxi costs 25€. The hotel is literally in a place where there is no access to the city. It would be good if they had directed activities of some kind, yoga, children's activities ..... something, as there is nothing. Thank you very much.
