Unreasonable management. Be careful.
My partner accidentally booked this stay and within 2 hours I was contacting Hotels.com to have it cancelled. In my experience and the experience of the customer service reps, hotels tend to allow cancellation when it is requested within 24 hrs of booking and weeks in advance of the actual booking. But no, Hotel Espresso was completely inflexible and refused to cancel it. I contacted the hotel directly and told them I’d pay a one night cancellation penalty. They didn’t budge. I later told them I would pay a 2-night cancellation penalty. They became totally unresponsive. Whenever I called, the person at reception said the manager wasn’t in and that they didn’t have set hours so they couldn’t give me a time to call back — this was from the very start, before this escalated to a real problem. So the point is this: this hotel wants your money and doesn’t care about its reputation or service standards. Their manager doesn’t have regular hours. Their front desk staff dodge questions. And they are seemingly irrational, not allowing me to pay a 50% penalty weeks in advance... when surely they could rebook the room and end up getting paid MORE. I’m sure they’ll respond and say I’m being unreasonable or because this was a “non-refundable” rate. But mistakes happen and when a customer calls within hours to try to correct it, you treat your customer like a policy/computer and not like a real person. I have easily adjusted reservations with other hotels. This hotel is the only exception.

Amazing!
This place was amazing. So close to the center and everything was walking distance. But then if you wanted something less crowded that is also walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!

not worth your time or money..
I leave reviews for ALL the hotels I stay at. So this is an honest review. This hotel is a place to sleep. The location is good, but this hotel is as boring as it comes. They must call it espresso for a reason. All the walls and furniture are brown like coffee... i guess i missed something? Anyways, glasses weren't clean in the room, hair and stains on the wall. Water damage. It just wasn't great at all... Really regret speding money to stay at this hotel especially since the reviews weren't bad when i booked it.

2 thumbs up
Hotel was a in good neighborhood. Close to the tram to go to city center. Front desk was excellent. Rooms appeared updated and clean. Only suggestion is that the mirrors need to be adjusted. I’m 5ft 3in, and it was difficult to see in the bathroom mirror because it seemed too high. There was a full length mirror by the door but with no adequate lighting around it. Really minute details, I know. Would still recommend this hotel!

Good 6.0
Really good location, service could be better
Location is really good, right next to public transports. The room was a bit of a disappointment; shower's sewer did not work properly and after a shower the whole toilet was flooding, and the room was really dark overall, there was only 3 small lights on the roof so you barely could not see anything. Cleaning was really bad - there were some dirt in the floor that was not cleaned during our whole stay (4 nights) and two times trashes were forgot to take out. However, the receptionist were really nice and helpful all the time, and it was nice to get free coffee daily from the lobby.

Great location and very comfortable.
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate his birthday and we had an amazing time. The location was fantastic. Walking distance to many hotspots but out of the hustle and bustle enough for a quiter night nearby. Lots of great shops, restaurants and cafes closeby. Free tea and coffee was a great perk. Rooms were clean and comfortable. All and all a great stay and would happily go back!!

Great value
My new favorite hotel in Amsterdam. Location is good if you're looking to stay close to the centre.Walking distance from Leidseplein. And one of the few hotels in Amsterdam that is not ridiculously overpriced. Service was good and friendly, they let me check out an hour later, and lent me a plug for my phone. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel, but plenty of places to eat and drink in the area. Also, they allow you to drink and eat your own drinks and food downstairs in the lobby. They also provide free coffee there, and there's a vending machine with drinks and snacks. The room was good, had everything I needed. A relatively large number of towels and other amenities. The room also had a third, foldable bed, so it actually sleeps 3 people. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely come back.
