This area serves up everything from cheap bagels to fancy bistro meals without breaking your stride. Most attractions sit within easy walking distance, with Mont-Royal and Sherbrooke metro stations nearby when your feet need a rest. Boutique B&Bs and holiday rentals in converted terrace houses make perfect home bases for exploring this quintessentially Montreal experience.

Quartier des Spectacles

Quartier des Spectacles pulses with artistic energy where Montreal's cultural heart beats loudest. Place des Arts anchors this entertainment zone with multiple performance halls, while the streets transform for major festivals like Jazz Fest and Just for Laughs. Digital art installations light up building facades at night, creating an ever-changing outdoor gallery. The Museum of Contemporary Art adds a modern touch to this French-Canadian cultural playground. Food trucks and bistros cater to theatre crowds, with many offering pre-show specials. Getting around is a breeze with three metro stations and pedestrian-friendly plazas designed for festival crowds. Boutique hotels provide the perfect base for exploring this walkable area where performances continue well into the evening.

The stunning Notre-Dame Basilica towers over the area while street performers entertain crowds at Place Jacques-Cartier. Along the waterfront, the Old Port area offers scenic promenades and boat tours that show off the St. Lawrence River from every angle. French bistros and cosy cafés fill historic limestone buildings with mouthwatering aromas and warm conversation. Getting around is a breeze on foot, though the uneven cobblestones might have you reaching for comfy shoes. Business hotels and luxury chains provide comfortable places to crash after exploring. With excellent metro connections at Peel, McGill, and Place-des-Arts stations, getting around couldn't be easier.

Colourful Victorian buildings with iconic outdoor staircases line streets buzzing with indie record shops and vintage boutiques. The aroma of wood-fired bagels from St-Viateur and Fairmount wafts through air filled with multilingual chatter, while Saint Laurent Boulevard showcases vibrant street murals and galleries. Food options range from authentic Greek tavernas and Portuguese grills to trendy brunch spots and Jewish delis. Most shops and cafés open Tuesday through Sunday, with Monday closures common. Hotel Chrome Montreal

8/10 Good
"Very good location close to Old Montreal, other attractions and metro. Hotel Staff were helpful. Our suite room was spacious and clean however the carpet and curtains need some replacement.Part of hotel entrance is under construction. Our window was looking at the construction site. Amenities were good except some minor issues, the ice compartment in the mini fridge was covered with ice so it needed to be cleaned. Microwave was turning on and off. No safe box in the room. Hotel parking garage is in the basement one floor down from reception so you have to carry your luggages on stairs but hotel itself has elevator to upper floors. Overall a little old but I recommend staying there"

8/10 Good
"The hotel staff and building were nice and easy to find. The hotel room was good for a night, floor was a bit dirty but overall fine. The hallways, carpet and elevators were very unkept, dark and smelled. There are only two elevators which are small (5 people max) and one wasn't working. There are no stairs to take to get to the 5th floor which made things difficult when the elevators were busy."
