Hotel Selja was a great place to stay on the south coast. Alex and his staff went above and beyond to make the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as it could be. I recommend to anyone traveling to Iceland to book this hidden gem

Great spot to stay on the South Coast. Close to waterfalls and ferry to the Westmann Islands. FYI you do have to take a gravel road to get there. Everything was great--food, room, service. Highly recommend!

all you need to know: 1. I booked 1 night at the hotel selja on a non-refundable rate through (this was my only option) 2. my flight was cancelled preventing me from going 3. i began making arrangements to go the following weekend and checked to see if hotel Selja had vacancy. they did 4. I reached out and, understanding that is was non-refundable, requested that my booking be MOVED, not cancelled, which would cost them NOTHING. Again i did NOT ask for a refund. 5. Alex, the hotel manager, responded and claimed wouldn’t allow the rebooking. this was a lie. 6. I contacted and they were happy to work with me and even called Alex. they also confirmed hotel Selja had vacancy on the day I requested. 7. Alex again refused to rebook me despite it being at no cost. 8. I reached back out to Alex and explained the full situation again and asked him to make an exception, again considering it would cost his hotel NOTHING. 9. Alex then proceeded to argue with me for 3 days, hammering home the non-refundable policy, but ignoring the fact that I didn’t ask for a refund and that it would cost his hotel NOTHING. So, Alex clearly doesn’t understand the service industry is based on helping people and making their lives easier when things don’t go to plan, particularly when it’s at no cost to his hotel. so having never actually stayed at his hotel, Alex made an already nightmarish travel experience WAY worse and for no other reason than bc he could.

Amazing Boutique Hotel that Does it RIGHT

The hotel was sparking clean - it felt brand new. The staff was super friendly and extremely helpful: when we walked in, the receptionist got up and greeted us in a very warm manner; when we asked for some things during breakfast they went above and beyond to help us out. Everything about this place was amazing - would stay again many many times.

Room with a view of the volcano

Central location. Close to Seljalandsfoss falls and 13 minutes from the ferry that takes you to Westmann Island. Hotel is new and nice with the best breakfast we’ve had at any hotel. The only downfall was being able to hear your neighbors. Walls are thin. We would recommend staying there,

    Wonderful hotel!

Hotel Selja is in the perfect location to see and do so many things in Iceland! The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well designed. Lots of outlets, great waterfall shower which was very spacious, good wi-fi, very comfortable beds, black-out curtains to block out the midnight sun, and very beautiful surroundings. The views are amazing with waterfalls, glaciers, and lupines in full bloom, and the location is so quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was amazing and they offer a nice dinner menu also. The staff were the best part, always smiling, welcoming, and extremely helpful. They booked a horseback riding trip for us and went to great lengths to make our trip "the trip of a lifetime". We even extended our stay an extra night because it is the best hotel in Iceland. Highly recommend!

    Beautiful place to stay

From outside it looks like a no frills hostel, but once you go inside the doors you know you found the right place. The hotel only has s handful of rooms, so book in advance! It’s a few minutes away from Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Our room was beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable and warm. The receptionist gave great advice regarding the local area and places for dinner. Breakfast buffet was delicious, had nice hot and cold selections. Our bonus was seeing the northern lights right outside of the hotel. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so it’s oerfect for viewing the Aurora Borealis.

As a platinum member of a US chain, I was a little nervous... This hotel is isolated but in a fantastic location for seeing the waterfalls & excursions on the south road. The back drop of the hotel is the mountain / glacier, which is very picturesque and gorgeous. Check in: The time is pretty limited (5-730pm, I think?) - Iceland shuts down quite early. Due to dinner out, we struggled to arrive by 9pm - we called & found out the individual working the desk retires at 9. We must have been the last ones & they are very trusting - he did not ask for identification, etc as I have experienced in mainland Europe (i had pre-paid online). Room: Very clean, new, modern (IKEA style). Bathroom was wonderful - nice walk in shower, plenty of towels, shampoo & conditioner. I wish there was a small shelf in the shower. Our room - 2 twin beds (comfortable with nightstand & power outlets), satellite TV, Wi-Fi, chair, & mini-bar (quite expensive, as everything in Iceland is). However... we lost power in the night (~midnight) - I think a fuse blew only in our room (rest of hotel had power) but since the desk is not manned all night, we were unsure if we should call someone or not. It was restored at 6:30am in time to get ready for the day. Food: Not sure about dinner but breakfast was included - continental buffet (eggs, pastries, bananas/fruit, a fantastic coffee machine). Overall, I would stay here again due to the clean modern rooms, location & breakfast!
