Priests House by River Trent.
Service was excellent. The location and ambiance were fantastic. A good breakfast set us up for the drive home. The only downside was the extremely restricted festive dinner menu, with no option of the normal bar snacks. But we'll be back.

Beautiful location but poor hotel
Tired and dated. Had to move rooms due to a terrible whirring noise from an outside unit on the first night (room 42). No bottled water in the rooms, 2 plug sockets that worked, hairdryer old and useless (not pat tested since 2020). Food average. On checkout there were charges for meals and drinks that were not ours. Had asked for pay at property but when we went to check out they said they said they had already taken payment from my card.

Beautiful place to stay
Absolutely beautiful hotel! Looks like they're working on refurbishment/modernisation, which it does need in places. No central heating, only an electrical heater which didn't work very well. Luckily not a cold weekend when we stayed.
Lovely breakfast, very tasty sausages, could do with more choice or bread or some croissants.
Very nice and friendly staff, super helpful!

The noise from the heating system was a problem, the banging in the pipes would have made it impossible to sleep in the first room we were given. After getting a different room two doors down it was tolerable. Nice food in the brasserie, but they should invest in some proper brandyglasses in the bar!

Unhelpful Receptionist
Receptionist was most unhelpful to the point of being rude. My party needed to book a taxi to the airport and she insisted we would need a 7 seater for 3 people with only hand luggage. She also overcharged for the agreed room rate

Awful mattress on the bed!
We had booked an admittedly low price room which meant we stayed in one of the row of cottage rooms separate from the hotel. The room itself felt slightly damp but there were two other problems. One was there was no hair dryer in the room. However the main problem was the mattress on the bed. Frankly it should have been replaced months ago as the springs at the edge had failed. Quite simply it was the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever tried to sleep in!
We were not impressed.

Booked the restaurant, for the restaurant to then please closed so had food at the bar. Staff lost order and tried to overcharge by £10 until pointing out the deal they had which was 3 plates for £18. Room is in a "Cottage" which is not a cottage but a long 2 floor external building, basic room, squeeky uncomfy bed, flaking paint in bathroom. Better quality at a budget hotel which are half price, very disappointed.

Avoid at all cost
Paid for executive room but it was not an executive room, it was much smaller than it should be, only two plug sockets, small fan as you weren’t allowed to use air con in the height of summer the room was like a sauna, couldn’t use bathroom sink as plug didn’t work, meal times were disorganised chaos food running out and not being replaced quick enough, menu was pathetic most food had chilli which I cannot eat, overpriced tiny portions and unsatisfactorily cooked I’ve eaten better at Wetherspoons for less money the whole hotel needs a refurbishing as very dated and scruffy would not recommend or go there again.
Avoid at all cost
