Unless you are a heavy sleeper, pass on this hotel
This was one of the noisiest hotels I've ever stayed in. I made the mistake of paying in advance, and really regretted it because I felt forced to book another hotel the 2nd night, even though I'd paid for this place. The walls are very thin and the hallways are echo every voice loudly. My room was right on the stairwell and I could hear people walking up and down the stairs and talking loudly until late at night. I asked for a change of room to get away from the stairs but the hotel employee refused to move my room. To make matters worse, the hotel employees did not enforce any kind of quiet hours policy, guests were allowed to bang on each other's doors and talk loudly in the hall until quite late. To make everything worse, the hotel seems to be near a shooting range, as I was woken up around 8 am by the sounds of guns going off. I usually don't leave negative comments but this place was terrible.

Was too far out of city
The staff were friendly enough but found it difficult to understand our English. Probably our fault for not doing enough research on the vacinity of hotel. Breakfast pretty mediocre

There is a reason why it is only $25 per night
This used to be a really nice hotel. Now it is a bit tired and in need of a touch up.
For $25 per night it is probably good value. However the wifi was a little unreliable. No breakfast. No daily housekeeping / fresh towels (although I would assume they would have provided if we had asked.)
It is clean enough. The air con works. The bed was typical Thai (firmer than I prefer). But I can live with that.
Would I recommend? Yes I would because it's cheap, I have stated in worse and we only slept in the hotel.

10 mins. drive to town. A reception was nice.
It's a comfort hotel between a Town and Airport,
If you have a private trip and rent a self drive rent car, you'll get to any destination easily.

Small hotel surrounded by rice paddies.
Need tuk tuk to get to town. This is a small hotel frequented by Thai people who overnight there on their way somewhere else.

Great Little Hotel
Great budget hotel, relatively new nice and clean and friendly helpful staff. Only criticism was that it is described as close to all Chiang Rai's attractions when actually it is a good mile away from these and a Taxi needed to travel into town and although this is easily arranged for 90 baht by hotel reception it's not the impression given by the description on the website. All in all though a great stay ensured by great staff.

Out of town
The only problem is that it is too far from the city centre. It costs 100 baht each way to the city. Also, there is no pool. Otherwise very good

The location is a bit out of town area (within small factory area) where taxi has to be called in order for guests to go elsewhere. No lift - better ask for ground room. What are lacking are made up by the good hotel services and nice buffet breaksfast.

Great service, questionable security
Nice comfortable bungalows in a pleasant garden setting with a fantastically attentive staff. We were a bit concerned about the security of the room, as the sliding doors locked together, but they could be slid to one side to allow entry by a small person. We were assured it was not a problem. At least there was a safe in the room.

EXCELLENT VALUE
From arrival to departure, we were treated as special people. The resturant was well appointed and the food was equal to any restaurant in Chiang Rai.

Quiet location
The Palm Garden is a basic hotel at reasonable rates. The room was good sized and it had a king sized bed. The bed was hard, but surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. The manager is American and his Thai wife is fluent in English. Other staff have limited English skills, but they will go out of their way to be helpful. Everyone is friendly. The restaurant food was better then the food in town and reasonably priced. The hotel is away from the center of town in a quiet neighborhood, which was a treat compared to other hotels. A one way ride to town costs 80 Baht, about $2.66 US. I would stay here again and recommend this hotel to othes.

Clean and comfortable.
Simple, spotlessly clean, friendly and comfortable are the words to describe the Palm Garden.
I imagine the few palm trees planted in the front entrance/car park are responsible for the name of this hotel but there is no garden to speak of. But it was the quietest accommodation I could find in my research and I'm rather glad that it is a 10min tuk-tuk ride from the town centre as it is far too hectic and noisy there for my liking. The tuk-tuk journey is fun anyway and costs only 80 baht.
Free Wifi is available in the hotel lobby and I had reception in our ground floor room. The only disadvantage to the ground floor is that noisy guests arriving can wake you up as the place is tiled from wall to wall making the acoustics very loud.
Our room had a TV, mini-fridge with water, wardrobe etc. It is true that the showers have those little heaters which means the water is never actually hot, but warm enough in these temperatures. We were able to borrow a hairdryer from reception. The air-conditioning in our room was too cold to be kept on at night, but then again in December the evenings are cool so wasn't necessary.
In the building opposite is a little restaurant that belongs to the hotel. Breakfast is a simple but sufficient buffet. We had nice Thai food for dinner here but some western food is also.

Definitely a good Stay
It was a great location as it is within a 5-10 minute drive from the center of town. I am not just saying this, but the food at the hotel restaurant was probably the best Thai food we had in our entire 2 week stay throughout Thailand!!! Their tours were a bit expensive in comparison to what we were able to get. Since Chiang Rai is a bit smaller you can be like us and rent a tuc tuc or taxi for the day that takes you everywhere you want to go. It's not the cheapest option, but we definitely saved a lot of baht instead of booking with the hotel. You can actually ask the guy who does the hotel tours to tell you how to get to everything and he is absolutely helpful. He even drew us a map for us to know what points of interest to look for when going different places. The room itself wasn't anything special and they only have a small curtain covering the shower area, but it's a good deal for the price. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Chiang Rai.

Excellent Hotel But a Little Far From Centre
The hotel is on the eastern edge of town and is about a 20 minute walk to the centre of Chiang Rai. If you don't mind walking or catching a ride into town, this is an excellent hotel. The staff were very nice, the room was clean and well kept. I was the only person staying there (low season) and they still made a full buffet breakfast. It was very quiet at night. I'd stay here again, no questions.

Great bargain
It's like a four-star hotel with two-star prices. The front desk people will get you whatever you need by calling their connections within the city and not charging you a dime extra; they just do it as a service for you. The actual hotel is very basic but the rooms are good size and clean. The husband and wife managers are absolutely charming. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Good basic hotel, a little out of the way
Overall the hotel was clean, simple, and had a decent breakfast buffet. The staff was helpful and friendly. My only complaints were: 1) They use those in-shower water heaters that are all over Southeast Asia - these only yield lukewarm water leaving me quite unsatisfied with my showers; 2) the location wasn't walking distance to the night market - which is pretty much the main attraction of town.
However, I must caveat my complaints by saying that most of the hotels I stayed at in Cambodia & Laos used these in-shower heaters, and the location is super close to the airport (15 minutes), and a short 20 baht tuk tuk ride to the night market.

Better than expected
We were very happy with this 3 star hotel which was far above our expectations.
The staff could not have been more helpful and the owner Tim was very helpful in planning transport and suitable trips for our needs.
The hotel was very well cared for and although a short tuk tuk drive from the City was handy to all tour locations.
We were treated like family and the tariff was really good.
Several nights we ate in the restaurant which provided excellent, well priced food.
More people should hear about this hotel.

Great customer service
This hotel had the best customer service team I have ever experienced. They couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are clean if a little old but still comfortable. The breakfast was very nice with a mixture of Thai and Western cuisine. 85 baht for a tuktuk into Chiang Rail. Would definitely stay there again. Good value for money.
