Food is good, the roof top bath is terrible.
Everything is good except the roof top bath… that was really disappointing. You should not be deceived by the picture….

On Lake View
Some rooms are a bit dated and wifi was weak. Small bathroom given size of room but beautiful views, nice service and great breakfast and dinner buffet (plenty of choices).

Beautiful views, but antiquated facilities
The hotel is conveniently located on the site of Lake Akan, and our room had a stunning view of the lake. However, overall the room was very old-fashioned - we wondered if it had been renovated since the hotel opened - and it has the tiniest bathroom I have ever seen in Japan. It is so tiny that is difficult to use the toilets comfortably, and some visitors may have problems entering the bathroom.
The hotel "upgraded" the toilets by adding a Washlet seat system, but the seat is too big for the old-fashioned toilet bowl and makes the space seem even smaller.
Be careful when using the bathtub, as the bathroom floor flooded easily.
The dinner and breakfast buffets offered a wide variety of good food with a nice view of the lake. It is a pity, however, that the breakfast buffet only offers margarine, especially since Hokkaido is a great producer of butter.

Good relaxing stay with a nice lakeside views
Check-in was fast, efficient and courteously done; staff friendly. Room size is big, bed & toilet clean; the shower curtains however, ave a 'smelly' odour and they were one or two hooks missing and felt 'mouldy'. The decor needs an upgrade overall from the room, lobby to the common areas. Book with a good view of the lake (Lake Akan) and Mt. Oakan. Quite central located in this resort area, and if you drive, easy access to the other lakes like Kussharo and Musho as well as other nice observation points for wonderful views of the lakes and surrounding area. The breakfast and dinner restaurant area is huge and can be busy during peak hours. There is a wide selection of western and local food; they are replenished regularly. The onsen is worth a visit and open almost 24 hours.

Buffet breakfast & dinner were good with lots of variety. The outdoor onsen has excellent view of lake akan. Smelt fishing at lake Akan was excellent and reasonably price compare to other places. Firework was better here compared to other places in Hokkaido. Hot beverages and simple snacks were served during check in.
Pillows very hard.

Hotel is in a run down condition, wallpaper falling off, bathroom inside the room had stains everywhere including on the sink and basin. Towel had stains.
Dinner and breakfast included was buffet style and overall the quality and taste was below average. It seemed like the restaurant could not cope with the influx of customers and food was mostly empty. Felt like it was a war zone. Customers kept having to tell staff that food were empty. No table service, used plates piled as there were insufficient staff to take away used plates. Also we stayed for 2 nights and the buffet food was exactly the same for breakfast and dinner.
On the other hand, the lake view in the Japanese tatami room was excellent, best view for the Snow Festival fireworks. Rooftop pool is nice, women's onsen is spacious and has a sauna. Hotel has a minivan driver service to drive you to the car park

Not impress by the hotel 70’s decor. Overall badly needed a facelift on its facility, decor and room.
Our room is on second floor near the restaurant. The room is full of tapayaki smell when night service ended. Not impressed by hotel buffet, too crowded with many tour groups. Don’t both to go Onsen.
Nice environment. Room needed some renovation. However, the spread at buffet dinner and breakfast was great and good Japanese standard.

Good buffet dinner and breakfast.
Paid extra for a room with lake view instead, was given a room facing the lake but with no view as the window area is blocked by a huge full branch tree. Very dissappointed not able to enjoy the beautiful sun-set view of the beautiful lake.

Beautiful room, great buffet and spa
Our room was the largest I had ever seen in a Japanese hotel. In addition to the comfortable pair of "twin" beds (which were larger than American twin beds) pushed together, there was a large futon set against a large bay window, so we could relax and enjoy a fantastic view of Lake Akan. The breakfast and dinner buffets included in our room fee provided a broad selection of japanese and western style dishes that were delicious. There was a spa on the roof of the hotel that included two jacuzzies (sp?) and one huge warm pool with semi-submerged lounge chairs. We could lay on the chairs and look up at the stars or enjoy colored light sculptures. Even though there were about two tour bus groups in the hotel, our room and the spa were quiet.

Nicely renovated rooms with a good view.
Hotel is well located on the lake. The lobby area is very dated; feels like a 1980's hotel. We had rooms in the Shangri-La wing, which appear to have been recently and very tastefully renovated. They were much more spacious than other hotels in which we stayed in Hokkaido and had beautiful views of the lake. The bathrooms, however, were tiny.
The buffet dinner and breakfast were served in the restaurant off the lobby area. I have never seen this many people at a buffet. There appear to have been quite a few tour groups in the hotel. Although it was crowded, with extraordinarily long lines, everything was calm and everybody was extremely polite. Although very few staff spoke a word of English, they were extremely helpful.

Nice rooftop onsen and spa
We stayed for three nights. Large groups checked in and out of this hotel everyday during our stay. Buffet breakfast and dinner are very crowded. The hotel is right in front of the lake and nice rooftop onsen has spectacular view.

The hotel was great but it was a little old
The hotel was right by the Lake Akan with excellent public bath and rooftop hot pool. However, you can tell the hotel hasn't been renovated and probably can use an upgrade. The buffet at the hotel provides plenty of options, but the quality kind of hit and miss.

comfortable stay
Room size is reasonable n stay is comfortable. Breakfast n dinner is good. Liked the outdoor onsen on the rooftop (swimwear is compulsory). Disadvantaged that no access to Internet in the room except at lobby. Small town n nothing much to do.

Lovely place and great hotel. Don't miss the Onsen
The hotel is great and our family room with view to the lake just perfect. We reserved dinner and had breakfast as well. Both were extraordinary and up to the expectations of my Singaporean family. Which means a lot!
Onsen was the plus and location is just perfect.Really recomended.
Some of the staff (frontal desk upon check-in) were not very friendly or a bit "dry" I would say. However I think it might have been a language barrier issue.

A comfortable hotel
Our family stayed for two nights. The lake view Japanese style room is great. Spacious and clean. Staff service is friendly. Only that the buffet dinner and breakfast were crowded because many tourist groups stayed here. Hot spring is good. Especially the swimming pool on roof top, enjoy the open space and Lake Akan to the fullest. A pleasant stay.

Good and bad
Although the rooms were not up to par with the food and location, it was an ok stay. The front desk people were not the most cordial or friendly. It went beyond a language deficiency. Our nonsmoking room, while clean, had a big wet spot in the carpet, but because there were no other nonsmoking rooms, we opted to keep the room as we did not want to spend the night in a smelly room. There was no air conditioning, so we spent the night with the windows all open to flies and noise. The dinner and breakast buffets and the view of the lake make up for the negatives based on the price we paid.
