The staff with whom we interacted were all pleasant, polite and anxious to be helpful.
However, this was, hands down, the dirtiest hotel in which we have ever stayed! It appeared that the first room to which we were assigned had only been partially cleaned. The wastebaskets had been emptied and the beds were made, however, there was a half-eaten loaf of bread on top of a chest of drawers and uneaten- and partially-eaten food in the fridge. BUT the worse thing was two pairs of men's underwear (which had been worn) on the counter in the bathroom!
The second room was sort of OK. The beds had been made and the sheets were clean but the upholstered chair and carpet were filthy! MY husband never bothers to wear slippers when traveling and staying in hotels. He kept his sandals on here. The carpets in the public areas were, perhaps, the dirtiest I have ever seen anywhere. They were so grimy all you could see was the dirt -- you couldn't see the pattern.
I understand they were having problems finding and keeping housekeeping staff. I'm sure both guest numbers and staffing are problems in such a small and isolated location but the level of neglect to upkeep in both public and private areas along with basic cleanliness was shocking!
We have traveled to all 50 states and 34 countries and never seen anything like this before.
