My daughter and I spent a night here after a long drive through heavy and windy rains. It was a great place to rest and recover. I loved our room, the beds were comfortable and we had an enjoyable dinner in the restaurant/bar downstairs. The staff was friendly and helpful and we hope to stay again. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in the area.

Golconda Mansion House
Golconda Mansion House was amazing! Cool, huge old Victorian house right by the Ohio River that was beautifully decorated. Many different kinds of wine and beer. The host was extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

A wonderful opportunity to experience an historic, old home. Mansions like these, if still standing, are rarely available to the public. If you love old homes, and appreciate those who are working hard to keep them standing, you should visit and enjoy a nice stay. The mansion has interesting rooms to explore and a great place to stay while becoming familiar with this beautiful region.

Fall weekend trip
We really enjoyed our stay at this quaint, warm and welcoming place. The room was large and filled with antiques. We could see the river from our room. The service was excellent! We had a nice dinner one evening and a wonderful breakfast on Sunday. The sack breakfast on Saturday was perfect to take with us and start our day enjoying the beautiful fall day and National Forest. If you're coming from the city, keep in mind this is a rural area - not many gas stations or grocery stores, but if you love nature, this area can't be beat. The mansion has a great selection of wine so grab a bottle and have a picnic. The hosts will be happy to help you plan your day! Wonderful stay!!

This was by far the most extreme case of false advertising I’ve ever experienced. The property is a cluttered mess both inside and out. Not advertised was that four children live at this property and can be heard and seen throughout your stay. We were advised when we checked in that the kids should be quieting down around the same time as we are going to bed. The walls are so thin that in our bedroom we could hear the children talking and guests checking in and the hosts talking and people in the hallway outside the bedrooms and people coming in and out of the front door. There is no hope for a “romantic getaway“. Our room had only a tub (no shower) which was still wet when we got there and had a clump of hair in it. It appears that nothing has been updated in this house for at least 40 years. Old, grimy bathrooms. The interior of the house appeared dirty, the rugs appeared filthy and old, and they may not have been filthy but it was impossible to tell because everything is so worn. My husband and I left shortly after checking in and did not end up staying there. We did not receive a refund of our $262 that we paid to stay in a quaint historic mansion that somehow had great reviews ????

Very unique and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Beautiful room. Difficultly sleeping due to lots of neighborhood dogs barking throughout the night, but we did have our windows open.

Great experience. This place is unique and authentic, and provides a great base for those looking to explore Southern Illinois and the Shawnee National Forest.

This property was definitely unique, if you're into unique. The carpets were dirty, air conditioner was turned off to conserve energy and only turned on when we arrived. The continental breakfast was white bread sitting on a plate getting dried out from 8-10 am. Extremely overpriced for the amenities.

The room was great, clean and comfortable. Breakfast the second day was cinnamon rolls and coffee - not what we expected for breakfast.

Worth Every Penny
We spend a night at the Riverview Mansion on 08/12/2018, heading down the road to Shawnee National Forest. The mansion itself, and all the surroundings are truly amazing. It is old enough to feel the postbellum atmosphere and has all the necessary modern appliances. It reminds me of the Dacota Building in NYC, as it was portrayed in Jack Finney's "Time and again". Some fellow travelers were reporting that there are many imperfections in the interior — come on! For such a building, the imperfections are the intangible part of an image, and I don't mind to pay for it. I especially want to express my gratitude to the management. The owners and their entire family are great, hard-working people. Hope to be your guest again.

Will definitely be back!
This place is amazing! Beautifully decorated, charming and even a little funky! I came down from a suburb of Chicago and stayed in the Gilbert room for 3 nights on my own little mommy getaway. The room was huge, had a great view of the river and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I was the only one staying the days I was there and they still went out of their way to put out a nice continental breakfast every day. This was EXACTLY the trip I needed! Days filled with hiking on the breathtaking trails in the Shawnee National Forest and coming back here to quiet and relaxing nights! Unfortunately my stay was Mon-Thurs, so the lounge was not open, but Tony opened the door for me to show me and it is super cool! Since no one else was staying there at this time, he also let me peek into the other rooms, which were all equally amazing. I have family in AL and this is almost an exact halfway point. I'm hoping to set up a full family vacation in the future. At the very least, I will DEFINITELY be back with my boyfriend!

My wife and I absolutely love this place! The owners and their entire family (Jamie and Patricia included) are amazing, wonderful people with a great passion for this place. We have had a wonderful stay and have enjoyed every moment. This place is beautiful and the staff is great. Thank you Riverview Mansion. We will be back again!

2/10 Poor

Very nice people but a more disappointing experience I cannot imagine. We paid $347.60, including a not previously shown $49 "property fee" for 3 nights, to include a free breakfast. The more notable low points: while using my laptop in bed the first night a cockroach crawled across the screen. There was a live bug in the bath tub. Dead bugs on the floor under the bed. Owner's comment was "this is southern Illinois". First day breakfast was a nondescript potato and ham casserole, cartons of yogurt, tiny oranges and lukewarm coffee with only powdered creamer and sweeteners-no juice or toast or anything else. Second day was dry biscuits and sausage gravy, same coffee and yogurt. No butter, no jam, no juice. Third day I drove 30 miles to find a McDonalds. Had pizza one evening. Surprisingly it was really good. Theres's no parking except on the street in front of the place, room for maybe 5 vehicles. Unhappily the proprietors parked their pickup truck and golf cart directly in front of the place, taking up most of the spaces. Seems like a really bad choice to me. Companions with whom we traveled also had bugs in their rooms.
