2/10 Poor

Tired and shabby
The staff were all very friendly and helpful But the hotel was run down , shabby and unclean A good clean on everything would not go amiss The toilet seat was lose , no toilet rolls in the downstairs toilets, our bathroom/ toilet was dirty and not very well kitted out The room was adequate but again it needed a good clean and everything was abit worn and shabby looking The kettle worked but cups etc were dirty and stained A good thing , the bed looked lumpy and uncomfortable but was surprisingly very comfortable The breakfast table and cutlery was dirty But surprisingly the food was quite good Unfortunately we could not stay the days we had booked , after ONE night we decided to checkout , I would therefore ask for a refund as the amount we paid per night was an absolute disgrace , regarding the state of the hotel / pub I think I would only recommend this for the food , but then just barely , it’s ok if you clean your cutlery beforehand I think the owners of said establishment if they can , should try and update everything spending cash on and in the premises and then hire a good set of cleaners as it is a large hotel / pub

6/10 Good

The property was obviously old and a little short of investment in decoration, room facilities and general cleanliness, but NOT so poor to inhibit a stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly in all areas with evening meals and breakfast, (except instant coffee!), very good. The small town is in a beautiful setting showing off rural dales countryside.

On 3-5 /8/24 we have stayed for 2 nights at the Rose & Crown Hotel in Bainbridge, Yorkshire. We came after a long hard day and were very tied. First we given the room number 8 , but after we came in and took out all our stuff, it tended out that it was impossible to use the toilet because it was blocked with something. The staff asked us to leave the room and tried to fix the problem for a while, but in vain. So we were moved to the room number 4 , but some time after we have entered, it tended out that the toilet door was half broken (it was impossible to close it till the end and staff member tried to help us with this, but in vain) and that the water in the shower sink drained very very slowly, so we had to stay like in the sort of "lake" and wait for the water to drain. The personal of the hotel apologized a lot once again and we were given a glass of beer each and next day we were moved to the room number 14. Unfortunately in this room there was no internet, the water stream was very weak and there was no hot water. We think that In theese circumstances it was absolutely unacceptable . We spoke with the manager Wendy about the refund money at least for the first night. She has said that in such a circumstances our request seems legitimate and that she is going to check it and will give us the answer by e-mail within several days. Unfortunately, despite several phone conversations with Wendy and other staff members, we haven't received any answer till today

I would definitely stay here again.
I arrived late (after a long day cycling) but all the staff were super friendly. My bike was placed in a safe room overnight 👍 The chef agreed to stay later than usual to take my order, which was great and plentiful. I was made to feel like a local !! I ordered an omelette for breakfast which was great and made by the singing chef 😂 Very friendly place in an absolutely gorgeous location.

The rooms were dirty with dog hair all over the carpet. The 4 poster bed moved if you leaned on the head board and seemed like it was going to collapse. The beer glasses smelled like they hadn’t been washed and when we said our room toilet didn’t work we were told to just use the ones in the pub. We were hiking so stayed anyway but will not be back.

Overnight sleep in a four poster bed
We stayed at the Rose & Crown for an overnight stop, on our way back to Bristol from a weeks holiday in Scotland. The hotel has been there since 1455, lots of history, we found it to be a very cosy and quaint. Real wood fires making the snug cosy and warm. Manager and staff were lovely and friendly nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent as was the service. Our room was comfortable the four poster bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out of it. Breakfast was good great choice. Will definitely book to stay here again.

We arrived just at closing time after a hectic drive up from Heathrow. Rob and William could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. William cooks an awsome breakfast from local produce. The place itself is not perfect but the people more than make up for its little "quirks" bearing in mind it is a very old building. Thank you Rob and William.

Run down and not very clean
Room in need of refurbishment and not very clean. Bathroom door coming apart and wouldn’t open fully. Breakfast service curt bordering on rude. Had to ask for dirty cup and spoon to be changed. Breakfast consisted of some boxes of cereal and choice of full English or an omelette. Dead bluebottles and dust on windowsill next to my seat off putting. Stayed in other much better and cheaper places found on Hotels.com so this was disappointing
