Catalonia Yucatan Beach - All Inclusive, Puerto Aventuras, Mexico

Our first room was flooded so they moved us to another room where the bathroom door was locked. We called front desk 3 times after waiting for about 1.5 hours for maintenance to come unlock it, so we finally called them and told them we would be at the bar and to have it unlocked while where out. Two days into the trip the key pad for our door stopped working. So my husband walked to the front desk to get a new card and was told they reactivated the new card. He walked back to try it and didn’t work. So he ended up walking back to the front desk again and was told maintenance will come fix the key pad while we were out on our excursion. Came back and it fixed. The room also had a big gap at the bottom of the door which really didn’t bother us much but thought that was worth mentioning since the door draft didn’t do much to keep the cold air in the room. It wasn’t warm or anything but I found it inefficient to have it installed but doesn’t work to keep cold air in. Buffett was also disappointing since they were both identical expect one had air conditioning. Food was all American and nothing authentic for Mexican food. We had to go outside the resort to get real tacos. The Japanese restaurant didn’t offer much for sushi except for a platter of California rolls and one tuna nigiri. It was habachi stirfy. Nothing fancy. The beach was full of seaweeds and we were not able to use the jet skis or kayaks that was included included. Overall stay was descent but will bit return back.

We had a nice time at this Catalonia Yucatan Beach. The night shows were amazing (e.g. Lion King), we really enjoyed them (a big applause to all the dancers!). It was high season, so it was rather crowded. In two of the three days we stayed there we couldn't get a single beach lounger, which was rather annoying. There were many entertainers who seemed to be there to enjoy themselves. We wondered whether it's necessary to have so many. The buffet food was kind of dissapointing. It's clearly catered for foreigners only. There was usually only one Mexican dish! The Japanese restaurant was quite good (although we had to queue for 30 minutes to get a place in three different days until we finally made it - go there at 5:00 pm to reserve your place!). The tapas restaurant is nicely located and decorated; the food is ok. The crepes and barcelona sandwiches made a good snack. Overall, this place is nice for (foreign?) families with young children (swimming pools and beach are ideal). Night shows are worth seeing. I wouldn't recommend it if what you are looking for is good food and an extensive, open beach.

Overall very satisfied. However, the resort doesn’t have the best beach; significant seaweed washing ashore. The Staff, especially Alphonso & Rafaele & Karina in Guest Relations were outstanding!!
