Party hostel
The only good thing in this place are the curtains in the bed and air conditioning in the room. I did like the bathroom style showers, but they smelled like different kinds of body liquids most of the time and generally the separate toilets / public areas weren't the cleanest. Otherwise the hostel is very noisy and I felt the people were behaving like animals. Definitely not a place for over 20's traveller or if you are not up to a constant racket/street party (at 7 am) after drinking the whole night . The kitchen lobby combination is a nightmare and couldn't be any more stressful place to be. The loud (bad) music just makes it more chaotic and awful. The whole time I was wondering if that was the point? To make pe people leave as soon as possible because the kitchen area is too small for that amount of quests. Not enough cutlery and other utensils. There were clear signs telling people to name and tag their foods or otherwise they are thrown away (which is good) but in the morning the nameless foods were rotting there in a basket with fruit flys buzzing all over. Just throw them away as you said please, more hygienic. I left after few nights and wouldn't ever return but got some very young guys looking for like minded party people I would recommend. Not to backpackers either.

Fair 4.0
They placed me in the wrong room and required me to move twice. The room in 217 is in horrible condition - it DOES NOT COME WITH A CURTAIN as they have advertised in their pictures, smells and dirty, no free locker. The whole corridor also has trash/leftover food and really smelly shoes. I don't feel comfortable staying in a mixed dorm without the curtain. Even then, there was a fellow female backpacker who burst into tears at night because the room was too terrible. I totally understand her feelings because no sane human could live in that room for more than a night. Terrible check-in service and reception bureaucracy. Lack of manpower in the reception. I have to wait really long to check in and caused me to miss my event in the city. Even then there is no towel provided because they ran out of towels. When I was checking out early in the morning. They require me to get the info card that hangs on my bed to give me back my deposit. I told them I am running late for my flight and gave them the details (my name, room, etc. that is on that card). They insisted on the card and I have to run back to the room. Needless to say, they would prioritise their stupid bureaucracy over guest's needs and comfort - I was late for my flight, and have to interrupt my sleeping roommates again for getting into the room to retrieve the stupid piece of hand-written card. Overall. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSTEL. It does not deserve the above-average rating as it has now.

My hostel virginity
I have never stayed in a hostel before, so I did not know what to expect. The first thing that met me was the smell of mould in the corridors, as well as in the rooms. It was garbage everywhere, beneath the beds and on top of the lockers. HOWEVER, the bed was nice and tidy. I never saw any insects of any kind. I stayed in a 8-bedroom which included a towel and a locker, as well as having sockets by every bed. I was also happy to find that the showers were private and lockable, and they were clean! Often the toilet paper and hand soap were out, but since there was plenty of showers/wc one could just go to another one. The rooftop was really nice, with free breakfast and wifi. The wifi was very slow though, and sometimes stopped working. However, there’s a free city wifi if you go outside just a couple of meters that is super good (limited to 250mb though). The kitchen was nice (not gas, to my relief!) and the staff is really friendly (with one exception...). Not really the hostel if you want to party, but you could do that anyway, the location is as central as it could get! I really recommend it:))

A top hostel
One of the better hostels I have stayed in! The mattress in my six bed dorm was super comfy and I really liked the curtain that you could pull across for a bit of privacy. Large lockers as well. The free breakfast was definitely the best from a hostel, pancakes, cereal, toast amd even juice! The bathrooms were mostly clean, in good condition. There was a rooftop which was nice to sit up on. Lots of long-term travellers so they had there stuff spread out alot in the room. Free BBQ and other activities another bonus! Fantastic location in the CBD and free tram zone. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay.

Amazing value
about a 10 minute walk away from the best areas of the Melbourne CBD, super comfy beds, and super comfy showers. And! Most importantly, to me at least, they give you a towel to use without charging you for it - I stayed at 4 hostels in Melbourne and this was the only one that did that. Free pancake breakfast, and this is also the only hostel I know of in Melbourne that also gives you peanut butter / nutella / etc to put on the pancakes as well as juice / cereal and other breakfast items like that. Definitely recommend.
