2/10 Poor

Not recommended - at all
Family of five with hopes of a nice and relaxing stay. We could not even get in. Gate was closed. No one answered the phone. We rang and rang, circulated the block over and over. Eventually gave up. So disappointed and quite upset about this treatment. The time we arrived was 19 pm so yes it was dark, the neighborhood quite dodgy, and not the time you want to take your already tired kids for another hotel search. I am an experienced traveler but have never had this kind of lodging experience before. So disappointed. Now Two days after our calls are still to be returned.

Very disappointing
This was a disappointing experience. First, this place is really hard to find and the first time, we rang but no one opened so we thought it was not the main entrance. We drove around then finally came back to the entrance and someone opened to us. The tenants seemed really nice and sweet. Our room was big with 2 bedrooms as we were a family of 5. The AC barely worked (it was still 28 degrees celsius in the room at midnight),the room has obviously not been cleaned, the floor was very dusty as well as all surfaces. All these could have been fine... until we went to bed. We had to wake up at 4am to fly back home. Our kids were asleep in one of the bedroom. My partner and I went to the next room and when we turned the light off (around midnight), big flying bugs (kind of flying ants) were flying all over our face. We turn the light back on to see that one of the lamp hosted a swarn of bugs! Too late to change room or wake up our kids to move, we all tried to fit in the kids room while sleeping on the sofa! Back home I contacted the owner to kindly explain the situation and try to find a way to compensate us. My complain was not received nicely. I was told it was our fault for not asking to move to another room (with 3 kids fast asleep and 4 more hours to sleep) and that, of course there are bugs in the jungle. They told me no compensation would be offered. I decided to take the matter directly to Hotel.com where this was taken very seriously. Poor hotel!

Nice house, owner, tasty breakfast, scary check-in
It was a beautiful house and the host is very nice, breakfast was very tasty. But we had pretty scary moments starting from at the airport, as the taxi drivers said this Bonfil neighborhood was sketchy and not safe. Then when we arrived we didn't see the owner, thankfully someone happened to be there and got us in. We stayed there for more than 2 hours all by ourselves, no other guests or communication from the owner. We set up the whatsapp to communicate with the owners, but none replied. The 2 hours was very hard to pass, as there was no AC, pretty hot, no one in the house, and didn't know whether the owner would come back, and didn't know when should we call police to get us out of there. All neighbors has high wall and iron gates the type you can see nothing through. However, if we knew Carmen, a very sweet lady, will be back before dark, we will have a totally different experience. When she came back, she apologized, fixed our room with AC immediately, though the room was quite small, it was sufficient for the two of us ladies for one night. Good shower, though it was an old bathroom. The room has netflix. She even took us with her shopping, and we got some tasty pastry. The house is uniquely designed, Coba room is great. But common area was dusty. That was why we were scared at first, feeling this place was abandoned. The printer/fax machine in the reception area has dusk on. If you have a rental car, know what to expect, this might be a good fit.

Peaceful and comfortable house. Gorgeous house
Great place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful place away from all the buzz. The house itself is gorgeous and very serene. The owners are very friendly and they will try and guide you around the area! Do keep in mind is a house and not a hotel but it also has parking space to have your car inside safe if you are renting a car. Overall very good.

This is one lovely place, and the name suits it. It has indeed a jungle-like quality, similar to a place in the Amazon rainforest. Also, the people running it went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

Millionaire manner, nestled in quiet, serene, area
This property resembles peace and quiet galore. A gallery of fantastic memories that includes generous, kind, knowledgeable, full of vin and energy to show off their beloved city. And what a beautiful city it is that has been revealed. The house is a few kilometers from beaches like Playa Defines and Lagoon area. Beautiful and adequate amenities. Easy intro from staff on how to arrive.

Beautiful Guest House
Our stay was very short, just overnight before flying out of Cancun the next day. We were on Isla Mujeres for 2 weeks and came over Cancun on the ferry. The proprietors picked us up at the ferry dock. They were friendly and punctual. We were close to the airport, so there wasn’t a lot to do, however, they took us to this beautiful, modern mall to wander around and have a bite to eat. They picked us up, offered to show us the beach hotel district and then took us to Casa La Selva. An incredibly beautiful home in the midst of a rainforest environment. The design of the home was amazing with large rooms that had jetted tubs. These rooms were spoken for, so we had a smaller, just overnight, but had access to lounge, kitchen and relax. If we were there for a period of time one of the larger rooms would have been lovely. If we had spent 2 weeks there, rather than Isla Mujeres, we would have rented a car to venture about, as it was not close to “touristy stuff”.

A Lousy Package.
We were picked up at the Airport by the owner, Carmen, who spoke little English. She was polite but did not tell us about the house or what we could expect. I did not know about food or cleaning my room unless I paid up front, which I did. I asked for a cup of coffee but the coffee maker was broken and the housekeeper just boiled water and threw coffee grounds in the pot everyday, so, no coffee unless I boiled water myself. I don't speak Spanish and could not make a call even though I had international calling. Carmen could not explain how to add the area code for Cancun, again, No help, she did call a cab for us because we were more than 25 minutes from downtown so it became more like work everyday just to get to the tour pickup locations. Her husband took us to one tour which was nice, and she arranged for us to go to a beach and take the ferry to the island but her daughter dropped us off at a beach that was not accessible to the lagoon or the ferry so we paid $40.00 U.S. for a ride 20 minutes away. I finally figured out on Friday how to make a call but was already so irate with the whole experience, I just wanted to go home, some lousy vacation we bought from Travelocity. Overpriced airfare, lousy accommodations too far from anything especially a restaurant to eat at. I think Travolocity should refund the cost of lodging at least, show some goodwill. but there is also, Twitter and Facebook, What will You Do?

It’s a nice enough place, but if you’re just there for the night, it’s too out of the way. There’s no restaurants close and Uber and Taxis don’t know where it is located. If you have a car and are staying awhile then you might enjoy staying there

More of a B&B
Overall, we were satisfied. However, it took us a minute to adjust our expectations. This is not a hotel. This is a private home. The best comparison is a bed and breakfast (without the breakfast). The home is truly lovely and the owners were nice. The "free airport shuttle" consisted of the owner's driving us to the airport. Also, there is nothing within walking distance so the owner drove us to and from a mall area so that we could get our dinner. If you are looking for a hotel, this is not for you. If you like the B&B style lodging, then this is a good option. The one negative experience was related to out arrival. We had been emailing with the owner and gave them our approximate arrival time. However, once we got there, no one was there and we stood outside (hot and muggy) for @20 minutes before an owner arrived to let us in.

2/10 Poor

Bad experience
This hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Once I arrived from the airport (around 9:00 pm), I knocked, ring the bell, taxi driver did as much noise as he could and NO ONE responded. We asked the neighbors and they suggested to turn the lights on in the taxi and hunk, we did that. We were there for about 40 to 45 mins in the middle of the rain and no person responded the door. Two hours later I received a txt from the person in charge of the hotel asking if I needed directions or someone to pick me up. When I told her I was there her respond was that she was there all the time. That maybe I went to the wrong place. I sent her videos to proof I was there. The videos show me there knocking the door, show the taxi driver. She did apologized, but it was such an INCONVENIENCE, not to mention I had to incur the expense of the taxi from the airport to there, and from there to another hotel and the time that took me finding another hotel. She did offer to pick me up, but that was two hours later and I was literally walking in to the new room.

Beautiful home and super sweet hosts.
Not realizing the hotel was not in central Cancun I ended up spending the little Pecos I had left on a cab ride to the guest house. Then I found out they don't take credit cards and there was nothing close buy to get food. The host was very accommodating and took me to the grocery store where I could get some food and pay them. Beautiful home and super sweet hosts. Very close to airport.

Comfortable and lovely
Carmen and her family showed kindness and excellence in hospitality. I was welcomed with fresh fruit and a cold beverage, followed by a quick walk around the place, which made me feel right at home. The view from the rooftop balcony was lovely, and the neighborhood setting was quite and restful after an active day visiting the historical sites and beaches. The hotel had plenty of stylish open space to lounge, and computer access for business. Personal tours were also offered, as well as transport for nearby shopping, restaurants, etc. I look forward to my next visit.

6/10 Good

The service the night we arrived was amazing. Reuben was super helpful and diligently showed us around the room we stayed in (specifically that places that were dangerous to the kids). Such as the unsecured access door that literally opened up to nothing except a shear drop into the basement, imagine an empty elevator shaft, but smaller). There were someones personal possessions in every storage area (pictures, toys, clothes) so no place for our things. This place appears to be under construction (the construction work started at 7 AM). The wood floor was coming up in several areas, the tiles were loose, the Jacuzzi bath did not work and the shower leaked everywhere. There were doors that had not been put on yet (no bathroom door, but it was leaning against the door frame). This place is not family friendly for under the under 10 crowd because of the dangers. The kids loved the air hockey table in the lobby, which Reuben was kind enough to plug in for them. They were not able to take a card payment that night, we had to wait for Carmen. Sure enough, the next morning, we got a knock on the door, my husband answered (he had just got out of the shower, so just shorts on) and she asked for the payment- fair enough. He asked if he could put a shirt on, she said she was in a hurry and had to get to work. Over all, I would not go back with my kids. Maybe once the construction was done. The place was beautiful and Reuben was great. Everything else sucked.
