Catalonia
What you need to know before you go
Spain’s Catalonia region conjures up images of Barcelona and the architectural masterpieces of Antoni Gaudi. However, the region’s capital also boasts a historic Gothic quarter, the infamous La Rambla and several beaches. While Barcelona’s beaches are beautiful, the seaside resorts of Costa Brava give them a run for their money.
Besides having its own language and unique history, Catalonia has distinctive traditions ranging from human tower competitions to the Sardana dance. Famous landmarks include the Gaudi-designed La Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlló museum. While you’re here, treat your taste buds to local delights such as esqueixada (dried salted cod) and suquet de peix, Catalonia’s unique fish stew.
