    Place to lay your head.

Phoenix Hotel is located in the heart of the Tenderloin. Understand that and you will have a great time at the Phoenix Hotel. It's kitchy little spot with a very friendly staff that is knowledgeable about the area and it's "neighbors." This is a place you go to if you are in need of just a place to lay your head. Nothing fancy, just an easy access area to a livelier part of San Francisco.

I could not get out of the area quick enough.

The hotel is reasonably priced and very close to the theater where we were going. However, the area is unsafe and generally atrocious. I tried to walk to Union Square and turned around a block and a half later because I ran into two different piles of human feces and a lingering stench. As to the hotel, parking is limited and the rooms are basic, dark, and dated.

Good value, and good experience overall. Everyone should be aware that the bar and pool is open until midnight, so there is significant noise, and we were woken up at 8am by more noise of people leaving. Don’t expect a quiet, sleepy hotel! Also, the surrounding area isn’t safe at night so just be smart about going out.

Some staff, although diverse ethnicity, demonstrated microaggressive behavior. Our room smelled like cigarettes and the rug was dirty. The pictures are not what you get once you arrive! Or family trip had to be interrupted. We checked out before our scheduled date and chose to check in to another hotel in Oakland.

super cute 1950s/1960s style oasis in heart of tenderloin area. rooms are as pictured with comfy and clean beds/towels. Very LQGBT friendly and pet freindly! Front office staff was very polite and on the ball with requests, even with many people coming and going for a special party during our stay. we accidentally booked the same nights there was a Gay Pride party during the day. The music was great but LOUD. I think this would be a great stay for the traveler with an open mind and heart who doesn't mind hearing some music later on in the evenings. walls were fairly sound proof but exterior wall attached door is mostly made of glass and you can hear EVERYTHING happening in courtyard. The tenderloin has a lot of homeless encampments that can be pretty raw and eye opening which isn't for everyone. Parking is expensive with only one slot per room at $25/day. Other parking close by was $25-45/day with no "in and out" allowed for that fee.
