Perfect weekend getaway
Cozy and super cute room lay out. The continental breakfast was really good and included some warm food. Friendly staff and easy walking distance into town, we will be back for sure!

At least it was clean
The room was heated to over 31 degrees celcius when we checked in (January). Charltons is an older property that has been renovated, but still has some wear and tear and narrow corridors. If you have mobility challenges, navigation in this property could be difficult. Our room was pristinely clean. It is clear the housekeeping staff put a significant amount of care and attention to turning over rooms. Our bed was uncomfortable, seemed to be of low quality. The complimentary breakfast had a 'feature' I hadn't seen before. A staff member checking names and room numbers from a list and crossing them off. Charltons Banff strives to appear to be a high end hotel on 'paper', but doesnt deliver when it counts. When it comes to value for money, there are better options out there.

Okay, not great.
Our stay at the Charltons was ok. The room we picked was a 2 bedroom with "kitchen" in between. This was a more expensive option. It was ok, but I wouldn't recommend for the $250 per night price we paid. The rooms are a bit outdated with low ceilings and claustrophobic feeling. It was nice to have seperate beds for the kids, but the room with the queen bed didn't have a door and the kitchen space was not very welcoming. It was a somewhat uncomfortable room. Not a bad place to sleep, but not inviting to hang out. The continental breakfast was average, coffee terrible. The indoor pool and hot tub were pretty good.

Good over all
The rooms were clean and comfortable, but we are sure that being pet friendly rooms that there must have been a cat in the room and it was not cleaned well enough as my wife is very allergic and she was very stuffed up and sick while we were in the room. If you have allergies be ware.

Know before you go
We booked a room for 4 people (grandmother, parents, daughter) in a 2 bedroom room with sitting room and kitchenette. There were two entrances, one into each bedroom, with the kitchenette in the middle. One bedroom had a door, the other did not. There was no place to sit and watch TV unless you sat on a bed or two chairs in one bedroom. The kitchenette was so crowded the table could only use 3 chairs. This was not how the pictures looked on their website. And when you advertise two bedrooms, we expect doors on both of them. To their credit, we told the management and they switched us to two separate rooms allowing us the privacy and space we needed. Be aware if you go here that there is only one bedroom with a door. The other room doesn't have one.

You can't control the room temperature
We received an email telling us we had been upgraded to a king loft suite. When we checked in ....we went to the room and walked into a sauna. It wasn't that bad on the bottom floor, but after hauling our suitcases up a tiny spiral staircase (bathroom on the main floor.....not good for middle of the night visits), it was a good 10 degrees hotter upstairs. Close to 30 degrees C. We went to the thermostat on the wall and were greeted with a notice saying that guests were not allowed to touch the thermostat and to contact the front desk to adjust it. So we picked up the phone. It didn't work. We trudged back to the front desk and were told a maintenance worker would help us adjust the thermostat. He showed up promptly, then went to get a remote control to adjust the through-the-wall heating and cooling unit. He returned and set the temperature to 19, but wouldn't give us the remote control. He said there was only one for the hotel, and if we wanted the temperature adjusted again, we had to call him and he would come and do it for us. Unbelievable! You can't control the temperature in your room! and if we had gotten it down to 19 upstairs in the sleeping area, it would have been freezing downstairs. There is no ceiling fan, and the windows, although they open, are beyond the balcony railing between the two floors so you can't reach them. Staff were not sympathetic about the issue. They told us it had been that way for years.

One night stay
It was what you would expect for Banff, without spending $400 a night. Not very cheap & very dated. Breakfast was very good. Staff were also very pleasant & helpful.

Very happy with the hotel.
Our room was very large with a large bathroom. Everything very clean. The bathroom granite floor was heated (a nice touch). Continental breakfast was good with a variety of items. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Underground parking was adequate but a little tight. We would definitely stay there again.
