"The hotel is looking tired and needing a refurbishment, we were upgraded but the bedroom ceiling paper had been stuck back but not painted over, breakfast on day one was ok, day two was poor, breakfast was over 50 mins late due to a coach party being served as well, understaffed, breakfast cold when it can out. Stayed here many times, but it just feels the standards have dropped and really does need a refurbishment"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in York

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly time to visit York is between January and March, when hotel prices are generally lower. For those keen to delve into the city's rich history and culture, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended. This duration allows you to explore significant landmarks, such as the majestic cathedral and various historical monuments, as well as visit intriguing museums. You'll also have the chance to enjoy friendly local interactions, vibrant festivals, and delightful shopping experiences, all of which offer great value for money while on a budget. Plus, prices may drop during this off-peak season, making it an even more affordable option for travellers.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute accommodation deals in York, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. 3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to factors like the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates may help you save on your accommodation in a York hotel. For those seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and potentially better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher end, we’ll suggest alternative dates that could offer more affordable options, increasing the likelihood that you’ll secure the best deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with York's fantastic public transport options, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that’s still well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there’s often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
